We paid a premium to stay in Greebe lodge for a private fishing swim which was infact a very thin slice of pizza the lake is circular with an island in the middle at around 3 acres 26 pegs is far too many with anglers all wanting to fish to tha island it meant that the two pegs either side of us which were very very close to us were fishing to the island leaving us very little space to fish so much so that we had anglers casting over our line's and at one point my rod was pulled into the water by another angler thankfully the hook hold was strong enough to enable me to retrieve it otherwise my expensive rod would have been at the bottom of the lake. Not at all what you would expect when paying for a private swim you really would think that you would be able to cast out to the island that is directly in front of you and it is for that reason we will not be returning to Sumners ponds.

We have been many times before, sometimes in our touring van other times we've stayed in one of the log cabins, due to the time of year and so we could be with friends we decided to have a cabin this time. It was a very different experience at this time of year . In the summer you spend most of your time outside but in November you are inside more due to the weather. To make the stay more comfortable I feel the cabin needs a good overhaul, lots of creaking stiff doors, condensation running wild in the bathroom, very dusty walls ( probably due to the nature of the environment). The decking is very slippery when damp. Overall we had a good time but would probably not choose a cabin again.

The Lodge was OK with basic facilities but discovered cobwebs in the kitchen and bedroom. Kitchen was lacking a casserole dish or roasting tin for any cooking in the oven. Also there was no tackle shed or anywhere to put rods or wet nets etc. as provided in other venues so these had to either be left outside or taken into the lodge. We were surprised that dogs were allowed inside the cafe area where food was being served and eaten when there was a suitable area outside. The other issue we had was when we checked out. We had to vacate the lodge by 10am and on arriving at reception at 9.15am were told we would have to wait until a member of staff turned up for work to check the lodge so that they could give us back our deposit so we could not make the planned early start to our return journey!

Very comfortable all the amenities in the cabin were first class fishing was good but you had people casting over your lines cos the next swim are to close. But all in all it's a lovely place and we coming from London could use our bus passes. Beening 70plus in years getting in and out of the bath was an effort so we said to staff possible grab handle and non slip mat in the bath But wot a lovely place cafe on the lake was nice and very comfortable beds.
