"Another great Stay"

A Burns - Stayed with family, Feb 2020

Despite Storm Dennis we enjoyed yet another great stay at Sumner Ponds. We normally camp but this time opted for one of the log cabins. We loved it and can't wait to go back, next time in the summer!

After finding Sumners Pond on the internet whilst searching for fishing lodges we thought it looked ideal. A private lodge with fishing veranda was exactly what we were looking for, on a specimen lake. We chose the most expensive of the lodges as it suited the four of us perfectly. When we turned up we were greeted with a bottle of wine and some scones which I thought was a really nice touch and then we had a look round the accommodation and it was great. There was everything you need to sit back and relax for the week a fish as much as we wanted. It was however unfortunate that we could barely fish. At some point I think someone has got a bit greedy and crammed in far too many swims in. Right next door to us the was a hut with 2 people fishing meaning we couldn't cast out as the was no room. There was also people to the left of us again restricting our fishing. We though we were lucky as the ones to the right packed up, we could here them all night not that they were loud, mainly because they were so close.the next day we managed to cast out before the people 3 swims to our right cast over all of our lines and we ended up in an argument about who has the rights to fish where. Not what we wanted whilst trying to relax. That was the end of our fishing that day. We tried again after a couple of days but again it was far too cramped and our lines got crossed on several more occasion, the last being as I was playing a fish, some cast right over my line bringing the fishing to a complete close. We decided to go out for day trips instead. To sum it up, the lodge was great, the staff were great but it wasnt quite the private fishing veranda that was advertised. As a specimen lake you expect to have some water to fish in especially in the lodge but this isn't the case there are too many swims and pitches crammed in to what could be a great lake. We did still enjoy our time, our friends went a day early because of the fishing situation.
