Accepted Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
Chestnut Lodge is a 3-bedroom luxury lodge in a fabulous setting between High Road and Middle Road, giving spectacular views of the sea all year round! Very spacious, Oak Lodge sleeps six in one double and two twin bedrooms. Bathroom, plus master en-suite. There is a spacious open plan living area, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Patio doors and two garden areas ensure great views of wildlife as well as the surrounding scenery.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Our favourite place to chill out and relax. Friendly family run place to stay with our dog. Beautiful scenery, quiet and perfect for walking. The website gives good guidance on how suitable the site is for people with mobility issues etc.

Churchwood valley is an amazing place if you enjoy nature, peace and quiet. So relaxing and excellent walks close by. We stayed in chestnut Lodge which was just perfect. This is our 4th stay and we will always come back.

Just returned from our 4th visit. I’m also recovering from surgery so we didn’t do any local attractions on this visit. But from previous visits I know there’s plenty to do & see. Our cabin was amazing! Spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is great to cook in, everything you need. The views are exquisite and the short walk to the beach is very picturesque. We actually visit every year & several people we’ve recommended it to have also visited a few times. We also have 2 Shih Tzu dogs and they love it. They can wonder outside as the gated garden area is very safe. Even if it’s hot weather the walk through the valley is under trees so stays cool.

Chestnut Lodge is a well appointed, comfortable lodge with all the amenities you could wish for. Spectacular views, abundant wildlife and secluded. Plenty of nearby walks, places of interest, good beachside cafes and pub diners. We were fortunate weather-wise, but I would add that Churchwood Valley is also exceptionally beautiful in the rain.

It was 15 years since our last visit to Churchwood. Originally we came as a family at least twice, and then as a couple on another 4 occasions, so it was pleasing to see that the overall ambience of Churchwood remains the same. We are now in our early seventies and found the steps and the slopes more difficult. However, we had a lovely week of weather the beach at Wembury was as lovely as ever and the views wonderful.

The view was beautiful and the cabin was like a home, very comfortable. Lovely walks and close to a beach (although dogs not allowed) if you do have dogs the nearest beach is Bovisand BeachHIGHLY RECOMMEND
Thank you so much for your wonderful review-we are glad that you enjoyed your stay here. Just one thing to mention, there is a dog friendly beach within fairly easy walking distance. We hope we shall see you and your dogs again and can advise you further.
