Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

The pine Lodge is a 2-bedroom lodge that provides a compact and stylishly comfortable accommodation! Beautifully designed, Pine Lodges sleep four guests in one double and one twin bedroom. There is a spacious open plan living area, a fully equipped kitchen with oven, fridge and microwave. Patio doors leading to a private patio area ensure great views of wildlife as well as the surrounding scenery.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Lovely coastal walks and dog friendly. Cosy and warm lodge. Will definitely be returning for another break. Just one very small suggestion - some coat hooks on the wall near the kitchen area (or somewhere) would be useful, especially when the weather is wet. Thank you.

Another Wonderful Stay

Had a wonderful 4 day stay in one of the Pine Lodges. I first visited Churchwood in 1973 and have been coming back ever since! The peace and quiet and being only a 10 minute walk from the beach makes this such a fantastic location.

Away from it all at Churchwood Valley

We have been coming to Churchwood Valley for more years than we can remember both with family and friends. The valley itself provides plenty to do and the surrounding area even more so whatever the weather. The Coffee Shop on the beach has always provided us with excellent food and drink. We have stayed in various cabins etc and they are always clean warm and welcoming. The Shop is also very handy. All in all a haven for peace and quiet but things to do if you are inclined.

Nicest pine lodge

Always a pleasure to stay in this tranquil spot. Our pine Lodge was newly refurbished and a great improvement on last year's. However the location of our cabin was not ideal directly behind reception/workshop which made it noisy at times. Also we think that some screening between ours and the neighbouring cabin would be beneficial. Having said all of thus we would definitely stay again.

Peaceful Haven

This was our third visit to Churchwod Valley staying in a PL Lodge.As always the lodge was spotlessly clean and equipped with everything needed for our stay. The on site shop is well stocked and morning papers can be ordered in advance if required. Very tasty pasties can be ordered for the next day and arrive still warm on collection - one of the highlight of my husband's holiday each time we visit!A short trip down to the beach, this may be difficult to walk for those with limited mobility due to it being somewhat hilly on return. However there is a residents car park at the bottom so you are able to drive down if you wish to do so. There is also a National Trust car park (payment required unless a member) at the top overlooking the sea if you prefer. There is a lovely cafe on the beach as well.Although the weather was not too good this time during our stay we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing break, further enhanced by hearing the resident owl in the evenings.

Peaceful surroundings

Positive points were the campus/site, friendly staff and access to the beach. The cabin itself was a little small, but lovely however the shower/bath wasn't full size which was difficult for me. Kitchen was well furnished and had all we needed. Lighting throughout was good. The big downside though was the TV and Wi-Fi. TV was too small and had limited channels, and the wi-fi was terrible. In 2023 internet connectivity is a must-have. If that could be sorted out then would have been a 5* and a definite to returning.

As for our WIFI, we have invested heavily into the system which we currently have, but due to our location, it is still a challenge for us which we are trying to address.
