Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This compact cabin is great for two people and comes with a twin bedroom and shower cubicle.

The cabin also comes with a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, an under-counter fridge and microwave, and a TV with DVD player. Located in the centre of the site, this A2 cabin has a peaceful and private patio and is frequently visited by wildlife on the park.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

If you want to get away from it all visit Churchwood. If you love to be in nature, to hear the owls at night, bird song at dawn, and nip down to the beach to watch the sea roll in, this is the place. Friendly people around you, but respectful of your privacy . M5 and A 38 and you are more or less there.Right , that's it .I'm booking again.

We will visit again in season when everything is openThe beach was not open when we came which was disappointing. The cabin was clean and warm, the beds very comfortable. A few more cooking trays needed and brush to sweep the leaves off the patio

Secluded cabin park with easy (steep) access to an amazing Devon beach

Lovely park with lots of trees and greenery - felt like living in a tropical rain forest!Great interactions with the proprietors and useful advice.Access roads and directions were easy to follow but be aware the lanes leading towards the beaches are quite narrow (with passing places), and have steep, tall walls or hedges, so you can't see too far ahead. The cabin (a 2 berth unit) was clean and adequately equipped with electric heaters (for late October chills) - the only downside was that the cabin was only equipped for 2 people. i.e. 2 cups, 2 glasses, 2 plates, 2 bowls etc and the seating was similar - so very little capacity for having friends come for tea or a meal. Also, I didn't notice any provision for children's play area or space to kick a ball. The location and quiet of the valley were so wonderful I would happily recommend this to adults who want a peaceful break.

Woodland break with added owls

We recently enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing five night stay at Churchwood valley, which was everything we had hoped for - rural tranquility, wildlife, unspoilt countryside. Such locations have become increasingly hard to find. Our accomodation in one of the smaller cabins was simple but had everything we needed, including TV, Wifi, and heating, and was clean and comfortable. There was a small patio with table and chairs outside the cabin - perfect for al fresco dining. It felt very private. Each cabin has its own car parking area. The owners and staff were universally friendly and welcoming. Wembury bay lies at the end of the valley, a short walk away, and has a pretty, unspoilt beach and a small cafe in the old mill, selling refreshments and ice creams. There is ample parking at the beach. The South Coast Footpath runs all along the coast, making for some excellent walks. Every night we listened to the owl hooting from the chestnut tree next to our cabin - a wonderful experience.

Holiday Experience

Our chalet was very comfortable and very well equipped with everything we needed. The allocated parking space next to the chalet was very convenient. We had a private patio with table and chairs for outdoor dining. There were beautiful views across the mature woodland which fills the valley and down to the sea. The site is conveniently located to visit Plymouth and other local attractions. We enjoyed the "wild life" on the site and fed the birds and the squirrels. Wembury beach is a short stroll away as is the small but very interesting Marine Centre and Old Mill Cafe. What more could we wish for????

Stayed in the A2 cabin which is ideal for two people has everything you need. Own place to park outside water pressure very good plenty of hot water we personally found accessibility better if you go to the bottom of mewstone Ave head towards Wembury beach and turn right and approach via the back end of the site. Very clean cabin staff very helpful Wembley beach is great went to two restaurants odd wheel and eddystone inn. Plymouth is only 53 miles to Newquay Cornwall. So if the weather is not to good in Devon it’s sometimes better in Cornwall

Lovely to return and find it all still unspoilt. Wonderful to see and hear the birds and to be so near the bay.

We were very satisfied with the cleanliness of the cabin and of the site in general. The staff were friendly and informative. The shop provides basic needs and charming, locally produced gifts. The cabin held just what we needed in the way of living space.Plenty of crockery, cutlery and so on for 2 peopleLovely to have the bird table and patio.Accessibility by road and on foot is fine, but being on terraces on a steep hill, it always takes longer to walk back from the beach than it does to walk down to the beach! The Old Mill Cafe serves great sandwiches, pasties and a variety of hot and cold drinks. The Marine Centre is wonderfully interactive now, really engages young and old visitors. And it's free of charge! Donations are gratefully received.Wembury Bay Riding stables are very helpful and have a good selection of horses to ride, to suit the expertise of the visitor. Good instructor as well as kind assistant.Wouldn't change a thing! Please don't change Churchwood Val

Staff friendliness was amazing! Couldn’t do enough for you. The welcome pack you pay for was well worth the money.. loved the cream tea also paid for.! Was a lovely addition The accessibility to the beach was second to none.. with the cafe and little shop it was well worth the trip alone.. if you fancy a beach holiday this is the place I’m sure it will fill up but it was a warm/hot day and not too bad at all! We walked to the quieter shingle beach that’s dog friendly so we could go into the rock puddles and explore.. the dog walks were also great too..

We've just had a wonderful stay at Chrurchwood Valley. Our hut was exactly as described and absolutely spotless. It was simple but very cosy and comfortable, with everything we needed. The outside seating area was a bonus, as was the shop and information room.Everyone I spoke to, from enquiring about booking, to during our stay was friendly, helpful and welcoming. The location is just beautiful and it feels so remote but still easily accessible for all on offer locally. There are some lovely walks nearby, Wembury beach is great for rock pooling and the village has a little shop and great playground. Wembury Church is gorgeous and we were able to look inside which was just as impressive.Hopefully we can come back next year and explore some more.
