Churchwood Valley Holiday Cabins

Churchwood Style Cabin (1 Double & 1 Twin Room)

Lodge
2 Bedrooms
Sleeps 4
Max 2 pets
From £61 per night

Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Fabulous location and wildlife retreat

Cornes, Lynne - 02/04/2024

Everything went smoothly for our late March adventure. Booking was easy and all was well organised and welcoming on arrival. Our cabin was spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed. We were soon exploring the beach which us only a short walk away. The big wow though is the location and the tranquility of wooded valley next to the coast. We were serenaded by birdsong in fact the small cheeky bluetits settled unfazed on the window ledges of the lodge very often! We spotted voles, weasels during our stay and heard foxes and owls from twilight. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable for anything needed, but mostly allow you to enjoy this little slice of heaven without interruption. We enjoyed the Torpoint ferry, Mount Edgcumbe, Cawsand and Kingsand via a spectacular drive along Freathy cliffs (not to be missed) and spent time on Plymouth Hoe on the barbican only an easy drive away. Churchwood has been dog friendly for many years, an added bonus.

Second visit

Hodgkiss, Sarah - 05/01/2024

This was our 2nd visit to Churchwood in 2023, we requested the same cabin, as the size and location are ideal for us as ex locals we already know the area well. Roads are narrow, but that’s Devon. The cabins are clean and warm, although they can smell a bit musty on arrival. We love the location, it’s wonderful to open the door and hear birds, and the rumble of the sea, Wembury beach is beautiful all year. Having visited out of season, we’ve not met any staff in person, but they accommodated our request for specific cabin. We always go into Plymouth, where there are so many local pubs, restaurants, cafes etc to chose from, Capn Jaspers is a particular favourite for our teenagers. We have also visited the Old Mill Cafe at Wembury Beach for pasties & ice creams. We’d recommend parking at Mountbatten and catching the ferry across to the Barbican, particularly if you’re visiting the aquarium, which we’d also recommend. (If you watched the recent BBC series, it’s a must visit.

First time in a glamping pod. It is so well thought out. Fully functional and well equiped. Spent 4 wonderful nights here. Private and secure. Staff at reception very welcoming and helpful. Close enough to everything by bus or car. Wonderful to get back to this place after a day out.I cannot wait to return in the summer!

Unadvised roadworks

Chapman, Sian - 05/12/2023

We booked a A2 cabin on High Road, we hadn't been advised that they were carrying out major works to Middle Road, just below our cabin. Angle grinders, drills and diggers just below our cabin greeted us. We stayed one night in this cabin, the noise was worse the following day and one of the workmen was swearing and shouting loudly. My husband went to reception to complain and they said they didn't know how far along the work was being carried out. We were then offered an upgrade to an A4+ cabin free of charge which was lovely. We've been coming th Churchwood for many years we were a little disappointed that we weren't told about the works as we only booked it over the phone the week before. Having said all that, the complaint was dealt with efficiently and swiftly. We will return

Cozy cabin

Probert, Sebastian - 05/11/2023

The cabin was lovely. The size of the cabin was great. We had a free upgrade to a bigger cabin than we had booked and it was lovely. The views of the stream and the horses were stunning. The scones and cream were lovely. The only slight negative was the double mattress was very hard to sleep on as it was so firm. Overall it was amazing and we would stay again.

Peaceful break

Rescorla - 04/10/2023

This is the second time we have stayed at Churchwood: 2 adults and one small dog. We found the A4+ to be an ideal size; the position (High Road) was perfect for access to walks, and we were very impressed with the standard of the accommodation. We were very pleased to have such good WiFi (we needed good communication for family reasons); phone signal was an issue but not down to Churchwood and we solved it by using the phone on WiFi when we really needed to make a call and didn't want to go out. We love the area and know it well, but spent our time walking locally and in the NT cafe on the beach. This was a rare and precious break for us and we value the quiet, the calm and the beauty of the local environment and of the site. The staff are friendly and helpful, the site is very well managed, we feel the cost is very reasonable and gives good value for money, and we have booked to return in 2024.

A relaxing holiday

Martin, Tom - 26/09/2023

The chalets are comfortable but some of the settees are well worn and need replacing. Also the TV’s are too small resulting in very poor audio quality. Also the water pressure is very low so it takes ages to get hot water to the sink and bathroom taps. There are no activities on site but the beach is not far and is nice and sandy and safe for swimming when the sea is calm. The chalet park is dog friendly. It is a nice quiet venue and the local walks are good. Good relaxing holiday. Ok for kids on the beach with a nice cafe.

Thank you for taking the trouble to leave us some feedback. We are sorry that you had one or two issues with your cabin while you were here, but we are reassured that you would still consider a return visit. Please do mention these issues when booking again and we will see what we can do to help. Thanks again.
