Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This larger A6+ cabin can sleep six and has two twin bedrooms and a double bed settee in the lounge. The bathroom has a full size bath and shower over. The fully equipped kitchen includes a washing machine and dishwasher. In the open plan living area, a TV with DVD player is provided for added entertainment. Sliding patio doors open onto a paved patio.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

We've been coming for about 50 years, every year at least once, and never been disappointed. Owners and staff are friendly and helpful. Fabulous nature viewable from every lodge. The overall setting is one of the best. We love it and will be back son.

Excellent accomodation with modern facilities and comfortable beds. Some shrub pruning to the south aspect would make a better feel in the cabin.

Quiet and relaxing no swings, pools or other noisy distractions. Just peace and quiet totally relaxing. people who go there are friendlier as a result. Staff are laid back and most helpful. We have been visiting Churchwood for over 20 years and the only complaint is the unstoppable Bindweed that grows everywhere.

Clean and tidy. Very comfy bed! Easy parking next to lodge. Narrow lanes to access site but not too much traffic. Easy access to beach and coast path. My only concern was as we had our dogs, area around the lodge was not secure as it was without fencing. I would think the same would apply to people with young children.

We were looking for a place to stay when visiting family and found this hidden gem . The site was well laid out in a wooded valley , It was clean and the grounds were well maintained . We stayed in a 6 berth lodge that allowed dogs for an extra fee in the middle of the park, it was a good size with a dishwasher and an added bonus of a washing machine. The patio area although small and on the side of the hill was secluded and private even though there was a road behind, the bird life visited regular we even heard owls at night. It was only a short walk down hill to Wembury beach , but it doesn't allow dogs March to October even though it is a wet beach, there is a grassed area at the top by the cafe where you can sit with dogs that overlooks the beach so we did that. The only down side to our whole holiday experience was the roads in all directions to the site were typical single track walled country roads up and down very steep hills with only a few passing places .
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a good review. We just wanted to mention that there is a dog friendly beach a little further along the coast path to the West, so do check it out if you decide to make a return visit.
