Churchwood Valley Holiday Cabins

Churchwood Style Cabin (1 Double & 1 Twin Room)

Lodge
2 Bedrooms
Sleeps 4
Max 2 pets
From £70 per night

Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

The setting was lovely but the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable - even the children didn’t sleep well.

A clean well equipped cabin, and friendly, helpful staff. Well kept natural environment. Quiet , peaceful and relaxing environment. Short walk to the beach where there's a welcoming cafe.Short drive into the Barbican where Captain Jasper's provides the cheapest and best cup of tea going. As well as a wide range of burgers and hot dogs. The Boathouse is more formal and provides excellent fresh fish dishes.

There was a big issue being overcharged charged over brochure price which left us out of pocket considersbly and then being furtheg charged for our two dogs which made things unpleasant and unaforanle in retrospect. additional situations were that externa seating was damaged, toilet pan was not fixed to floor. Flagstone on steps were not fixed although minor things lead to feeling of dilapidation.we would stay there again as it’s convenient to us being nearby, but the issue being overcharged from the brochure point of view and in addition to the dog charges made us feel that we are being ripped off and the venue were not prepared to waiver the cost of the dogs under the circumstances of overcharging and we’re pushing us back to Booking.com to resolve the issue although they did offer to cancel the Booking.com booking and charge us the original cost, but that wasn’t really ideal situation

Response from the owner

Thank you for your feedback Mr Pool and we are grateful for your 4* review despite these issues. Whilst you refer here to being overcharged and a brochure price, you booked through Booking.com rather than direct with us . As advised, we have had a look into why their price may have been lower than that which you were eventually charged. We can see no reason for this, however, if you contact their customer services team, they may be able to help you .Regarding the additional pet charges, we do advertise that there is an extra cost for dogs, both directly and through Booking.com. This helps us to cover additional cleaning costs and extra wear and tear on accommodation that pets often create. It is very standard within the accommodation industry to have additional pet charges and we feel that ours are fair. As for the other issues which you mentioned (seating, toilet, flagstone) , we thank you for bringing these to our attention during your stay. We offered to resolve these for you immediately, but you declined. We have now had the opportunity to inspect these items and found that they were very minor and easily resolved. The small repairs have now been completed and we strongly dispute that they would have contributed to a 'feeling of dilapidation' at the cabin. We are saddened that the above situation left you not completely satisfied with your stay and hope this explanation will help. In summary, we are very glad that on the whole you enjoyed your time with us and that you are planning to return, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Churchwood in the future. Kind regards Tom and the Churchwood Team

Perfect for anyone who wants a calmer pace of life

The site is clean and well maintained and perfect for anyone that wants a quieter style holiday. With the beach and rock pools and local wildlife it is perfect for those who appreciate our natural world. With Plymouth around the corner you have access to everything a big city has ans plenty of things to do and see. Cornwall is just across the estuary and with a central train station at Plymouth you have access to almost everything. The moors are close by and in the opposite direction is Torquay and Fartmoutj. We have been coming here over 25 years and still haven’t seen everything.

Very peaceful & beautiful, disappointing kitchen eqpt.

A stunning location. Very peaceful & beautiful.Very steep + steps. I noted this mentioned in website so I contacted to ask if I could park "right outside" due to my father's mobility issues and was assured it was so, however, place we stayed in was up away from the road with a lot of steps which he found difficult, he was very grateful for the handrail and it made a huge difference (we would not have been able to stay otherwise).Kitchen issues: ceramic hob with touch controls a bad choice for a holiday venue, too complicated, we could not get it to work, a simpler more traditional one would be better.Inventory states "coffee machine", but it's only a cafetière.Local places to eat not open every day out of season, found a friendly Chinese takeaway prepared to deliver. Later on in week we had some great Moules Frites at The Odd Wheel, and delicious fish at The BridgeDirections sent were invaluable.Overall a really lovely place, better for fit adults & children rather than eld

Beautiful setting / scenery with view of horses from the cabin .Cabin clean and tidy on arrival, good amenities the shop perfect for the basics , the only thing we would recommend would be a fan in the cabin as they get very warm and our big dog struggled a bit with the heat. Didn’t expect the hot weather mid September but that was a bonus. Lots of local sights to see , would recommend a visit to the Hoe and Barbican area. Went to the Tudor Rose tearoom and garden just off Sutton harbour for a cream tea 👌highly recommend this place , lovely owner and staff to top off our visit. Plenty to do around this area , unfortunately we was too late for the last boat trip of the day , so will be returning at some point to do this .The Foxhound Inn Brixton was a good move , lovely meal and very dog friendly , also a trip to jennycliff cafe for a coffee and walk , stunning .
