Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Another great stay with the estate and wider landscape looking amazing with wildflowers and new foliage everywhere. The cabin was immaculate and well stocked with equipment. Places we love to visit include The Bridge at Mountbatten, the Box museum in Plymouth and Rockets & Rascals/Black Cat Surfclub for coffee & light meals.

We returned to Churchwood valley after 15 years this time with my daughter and grandchildren as did my parents with me .Still an oasis of peace and beautiful nature. Not for those wanting high quality matching crockery, Farrow and ball paint, dishwashers etc but perfect for a comfortable family get together ad you can enjoy meeting up but also have the privacy of your own cabin.Just a little shop where you can buy essentials and local produce and a laundrette if you need it, friendly staff and in the cabins, comfortable beds and adequate facilities but it's the setting that's the star of the show .An affordable break that we intend to repeat many times!

We visited for 4 nights in April for our birthdays, staying in a 2 bed cabin with our 7 month old puppy, Buddy. We loved the cabin and it's location overlooking a valley with a stream running through it and the enclosed patio area was great so Buddy could go out whenever he liked. We were a 10 minute walk to beautiful Wembury beach and a 5 minute walk to reception and the on site shop.It was clean, well equipped and comfortable (although the bed was a little hard for us and the duvet a little small). We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the wildlife. Easy access to Plymouth by road (20 minutes). Staff were friendly and there if needed. Lots of useful information in the folder in the cabin with recommendations for restaurants and things to do. All in all a perfect break in a beautiful location - highly recommended. Thank you 😊

The setting was lovely but the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable - even the children didn’t sleep well.

A clean well equipped cabin, and friendly, helpful staff. Well kept natural environment. Quiet , peaceful and relaxing environment. Short walk to the beach where there's a welcoming cafe.Short drive into the Barbican where Captain Jasper's provides the cheapest and best cup of tea going. As well as a wide range of burgers and hot dogs. The Boathouse is more formal and provides excellent fresh fish dishes.

There was a big issue being overcharged charged over brochure price which left us out of pocket considersbly and then being furtheg charged for our two dogs which made things unpleasant and unaforanle in retrospect. additional situations were that externa seating was damaged, toilet pan was not fixed to floor. Flagstone on steps were not fixed although minor things lead to feeling of dilapidation.we would stay there again as it’s convenient to us being nearby, but the issue being overcharged from the brochure point of view and in addition to the dog charges made us feel that we are being ripped off and the venue were not prepared to waiver the cost of the dogs under the circumstances of overcharging and we’re pushing us back to Booking.com to resolve the issue although they did offer to cancel the Booking.com booking and charge us the original cost, but that wasn’t really ideal situation
Thank you for your feedback Mr Pool and we are grateful for your 4* review despite these issues. Whilst you refer here to being overcharged and a brochure price, you booked through Booking.com rather than direct with us . As advised, we have had a look into why their price may have been lower than that which you were eventually charged. We can see no reason for this, however, if you contact their customer services team, they may be able to help you .Regarding the additional pet charges, we do advertise that there is an extra cost for dogs, both directly and through Booking.com. This helps us to cover additional cleaning costs and extra wear and tear on accommodation that pets often create. It is very standard within the accommodation industry to have additional pet charges and we feel that ours are fair. As for the other issues which you mentioned (seating, toilet, flagstone) , we thank you for bringing these to our attention during your stay. We offered to resolve these for you immediately, but you declined. We have now had the opportunity to inspect these items and found that they were very minor and easily resolved. The small repairs have now been completed and we strongly dispute that they would have contributed to a 'feeling of dilapidation' at the cabin. We are saddened that the above situation left you not completely satisfied with your stay and hope this explanation will help. In summary, we are very glad that on the whole you enjoyed your time with us and that you are planning to return, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Churchwood in the future. Kind regards Tom and the Churchwood Team
