Churchwood Valley Holiday Cabins

A2+ Cabin (Double Room with Bath and Shower)

Lodge
1 Bedroom
Sleeps 2
Max 2 pets

Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This compact cabin is great for two people and comes with a double bedroom equipped with a bath and shower room. The cabin also comes with a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, an under counter fridge and microwave, and a TV with DVD player. Located in the centre of the site, this A2 cabin has a peaceful and private patio and is frequently visited by wildlife on the park.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Super little chalet in a perfect setting

We had the perfect short break at churchwood valley. We loved the little cabin which had everything we needed and was set in a glorious wooded valley where we heard nothing but birdsong. We loved the walks down to the beach and along the coast path and the cafe on the beach and the little farmers market in the village hall. We took our dog with us and she really enjoyed her stay too. We would go back again for the peace and relaxing and there are many other footpaths we would like to explore.

Lovely getaway

A lovely getaway in a cabin in the greenery with a lovely beach in walking distance. We took our dog and walked further along the beach for the dog friendly area which we preferred as it was quieter. Nice little getaway weekend. :)

Peaceful place but tricky driving

The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. It was peaceful and beautifully kept. The cabin was clean and well equipped. However, for me I found the stress of driving around the site and to and from the site would prevent me from returning. The roads are very steep and passing oncoming horses or cars or tractors just made it very stressful. The road to the beach was steep and full of potholes. I couldn't choose to walk to and from because I had my young grandson with me. From the website I just hadn't expected the access and roads to be so challenging.So...just for me, I couldn't return. But am sure these factors wouldn't put other people off.

Response from the owner

03 September 2025

Dear Miriam,a belated thank you for leaving us some feedback, and it's a shame that you feel Churchwood didn't really suit you and your grandson. We do advise people on the 'Cabins' section of the website that if you are concerned about access for any reason, to make us aware. We can then attempt to allocate a suitable cabin. As for generally driving around, we would have tried to suggest the easiest route around the area if you had advised us you were worried about it-maybe it wouldn't have made any difference as we are in a rural area and Devon lanes are somewhat narrow as you say.If you change your mind about a return visit, please contact us and we will help you select the most suitable cabin that we can. Thanks again for your review, and your kind comments.

Peace and tranquillity

Churchwood Valley is located above Wembury Beach, near Plymouth. It is accessed from the A379, via a series of local roads and country lanes. The park offers a range of chalet sizes. Each is privately located with peaceful surroundings. The park has regularly won awards for nature and environmental care. The chalets are clean and offer a good range of facilities, though towels are not provided. Each has a patio and designated car parking. The site includes a shop for general provisions, an information room and a laundrette. Staff are friendly and helpful. Holiday bookings offer excellent value for money. There are local walks available and Plymouth is within easy reach. Dartmoor is also readily accessible.

Hidden secluded valley - excellent for wildlife

Garrett, Anna - 29/06/2025

This was a great location for our coast path walking. A lovely walk to the Yealm estuary with ferry to Noss Mayo and a 15 minute walk to the National Trust beach and cafe. Lovely coastline for plants and excellent sighting of a peregrine. The site was quiet and peaceful and the chalets were all positioned to give privacy and seclusion. We were at the top of the steep valley and it felt like being in the tree canopy. Lots of information about the wildlife - we were visited by a hedgehog and tawny owl which was brilliant. Loved the bird table outside each chalet which was visited by several birds, including a very friendly Robin. The site team were really friendly and helpful and sorted out a minor issue immediately. The chalet was spotlessly clean and pretty well equipped for self catering. The site was well maintained throughout. The site shop had a few essentials and gifts The local village- about a mile away - had a well stocked Premier store and a very good pub.

Third visit to Churchwood

Nicholls, C - 27/06/2025

This is our third visit to Church wood as we really love the location, atmosphere and their ethos. It's a very quiet peaceful place, you hardly ever see anyone else so you can enjoy looking and listening to nature. The cabins are basic but very clean and well equipped with everything you could need. The beds are very comfortable.Slight negative is the size of the TV and the sofa needs replacing as it's not comfortable.

Short break away

Another fabulous trip to Churchwood Valley! Cabin was ideal, patio area was just the right size, and naturally sheltered by the tall trees so very calm and still for the small birds. Peaceful and quiet at night, despite it being a Bank Holiday AND a half term week! Took advantage of the 4 nights for 3 offer which made it very good value for money. We stayed 4 nights and visited Salcombe, Dartmoor, Plymouth and Noss Mayo as well as enjoying a pub lunch at the Eddystone pub in Heybrook Bay. Brought our little dog with us but we knew in advance that we couldn't take her to Wembury Beach between May and October. Our favourite place and we will most certainly be back! Thank you.

a revisit to a childhood vacation spot

Hulce, Mars - 01/06/2025

My wife came to Churchwood Valley several times as a child on family holiday over 50 years ago. We were delighted with what we found visiting the UK last week from our home in the USA: wonderful private cottage with fabulous view, exceedingly well-run operation, great shop and excellent, helpful, and friendly staff. Walks were plentiful and lovely. We stayed four nights and just scratched the potential of this great place. It's Devon, so roads are narrow, but the countryside and charm is unsurpassed.
