Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This compact cabin is great for two people and comes with a double bedroom and shower cubicle.
The cabin also comes with a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, an under-counter fridge and microwave, and a TV with DVD player. Located in the centre of the site, this A2 cabin has a peaceful and private patio and is frequently visited by wildlife on the park.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Shop on site was good. Buses to Plymouth from Wembury. Local pub Odd Wheel great food.If arriving in daylight directions were good. We arrived in the dark and had horrendous time finding site and even worse finding cabin. The signage was not easy in the dark and torrential rain - we almost parked up and slept in the car! Not the best of starts to our holiday we were so stressed! The cabin we were given was 1 Middle Road which wasn’t the easiest to find.Looking back on our holiday, despite the rain we have enjoyed ourselves. BUT we would advise people to arrive in the daylight when it is easy to find the way around. Is there anything you can do to improve the signage in the dark?Thank you for our stay in Churchwood Valley.Paul and Marilyn Eales

We spent a very relaxing week renting a self catering A2 cabin - in a 'forest' and only a few minutes walk from the beach. There is some sand but not much, with rocks for rockpooling and a small pebble beach with the benefit of a cafe, icecream and beach shop and toilets, Also the Marine Life Centre. All the benefits of a larger beach but cosy and with a terrific view of the Mewstone. We took our own camp chairs and had a lovely lazy time with glorious weather. The cabins are basic but well equiped, clean and comfortable, with an on site laundry, shop and information centre. The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The local wildlife is shy but sightings are frequent. We have been before and will be back. There is a pub in Wembury, a short walk away - popular for meals so booking is recomended.

My partner, my dog and I enjoyed 7 nights in one of their 2 berth cabins. And we never expected it to be so well equipped. TV, WiFi, fully fitted kitchen, and bedding. Beautiful views of the valley, friendly staff.Wildlife is fantastic. Wed highly recommend

We enjoyed our stay, however would have welcomed a more comfortable sofa to relax as the current one is outdated and very uncomfortable. The TV is also very small. In general the lodges are well equipped and very clean but need to be made more comfortable especially when you are disabled and require a little comfort. The beach is quite a walk but very pleasant, our dog enjoyed the walks but dogs aren’t allowed not allowed on the beaches at all during the summer months.

Our stay was lovely, our family booked a 6 person lodge a few doors down from us. All appliances included was very nice to have access to. The beach was very close. Parking spaces for your specific lodge was very handy. Only thing that was confusing at first was the roads, but once you get used to them they’re easy to recognise.

I've stayed at Churchwood as a child (over 30 years ago...), with my family as a young adult and most recently with my husband and dog. What I love about Churchwood is that it never changes - the welcome is just as warm and the staff are so helpful, the location is beautiful and so convenient for exploring the surrounding area. The chalets are just as I remember them but, crucially, are in excellent condition and there's no sense of anything being tired or worn. You have everything you need for a perfect holiday!

Good bit: serene woods, wildlife, friendly and helpful staff.Bad bit: v narrow lanes, hazardous sloping steps to cabin, very basic accommodation in A2 cabin. No sunshine on patio due to mature trees, no view. Zero signal.
Dear Danielle,a belated thank you for leaving us some feedback, and whilst we can see that there are several aspects of staying at Churchwood which you appreciated, there were clearly others which left you feeling somewhat disappointed.Yes, we would agree that the lanes to the site are indeed narrow, but we are in a rural area, and therefore this is not only to be expected, but out of our control. We allocated the cabin to you based on your request for something fairly dog secure-and unfortunately this meant a cabin which was quite tucked away, and without an open outlook. As for the signal, it can be limited (again, our rural setting) but the free WIFI means that people are not greatly inconvenienced. Lastly, we agree that our A2 cabins are compact but this is reflected in the pricing. It's a shame that all in all you feel you are unlikely to return, but should you change your mind, please contact us before you book and we will do our best to select a cabin which you enjoy. Thanks again for your review.

We love Churchwood. The cabins are fully kitted out and comfortable. The outdoor seating and patio area is great. The site is quiet and it’s nice to hear the owl calls during the night. The local pubs - the odd wheel and Eddystone Inn are within the walking distance and dog friendly.
