Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

After 24 years of returning to Churchwood I can only say that it is a haven for us. Being in nature, no clubs, no noise, it is perfect for getting away from everything. Yet still close to a lovely beach and great walks. Also close to Plymouth and many good pubs and eateries. Family run, Churchwood Valley staff have always been helpful and kind. There is a well stocked site shop also. The camp is in a valley so there may be mobility issues for some in certain cabins. All in all, a great retreat, a gem in a hidden place. They now have an outdoor sauna too.

What a super site. Although quite a few cabins, they are so well spaced out, that you hardly see other holidaymakers. A complete escape for everyday life, surrounded by nature. Our cabin was extremely clean and tidy, and very well equipped. We had friends visit for a meal one evening and everything needed was found in the cabin. Amazing Wi-Fi connection too !A lovely short walk to the local beach of Wembury, where the coastal path could be picked up. Approx a 25min drive into the centre of Plymouth.......a true gem !Every member of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We will definitely return as have an elderly friend that lives nearby who we like 'to keep an eye on'

We've had a lovely time at Churchwood. The area is beautiful, there's so much to do and see. The cabin was comfortable, the staff were helpful. It was lovely to wake up at the birdsong in the morning.

A basic but comfortable cabin, lovely and warm! We were on the low road with a beautiful view of the stream and wildlife. Nice enclosed outside area perfect for our dog. A slight toaster issue which was dealt with quickly. Would definitely come again! 😊

My elderly mother and I thoroughly enjoyed a peaceful week's break here, just before schools broke for half-term. Initially allocated a higher road cabin, on an incline amidst the tree tops, the staff kindly initiated a move to a lower road cabin - on the flat, overlooking river, paddock / horses, to make life easier & more comfortable for my mum, re her mobility. Lovely, friendly & helpful staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble. The location is also fabulous, with stunning coastal views. Definitely recommended! :)

Churchwood Valley is a special place, so peaceful and a beautiful atmosphere in a woodland valley leading down to the sea.Accessible through steep winding narrow Devon Lanes, to the private lanes and paths to our welcoming and well layed out cabin, with a patio, garden and a perfect view, ours looked across the valley where the horses from nearby Wembury riding stables were out at night. Bliss. The wildlife is special, bats, with a soundtrack of tawny owls, against the backdrop of the moon, a curious hedgehog that came up to me a couple of times to investigate my boots! great and blue tits, a territorial robin and many birds including a buzzard that came to the field every morning hopping around looking for worms. A short stroll down to the beach, perfect for swimming or relaxing. The east coast path took us to Warren point, a water taxi across the river Yealm, to the wonderful Ship Inn, great food.Thank you to the lovely staff at Churchwood Valley for a wonderful stay. We come with a 9 month year old baby. The lodge was perfect. Everything we needed. The lanes are a little narrow but it’s worth it. Very peaceful. Standing on the decking watching the birds squirrels in the trees above the cabin. There is a beach 3/4 min drive. You can walk it we didn’t stood steep for the pram.
