Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Also the water pressure is very low so it takes ages to get hot water to the sink and bathroom taps. There are no activities on site but the beach is not far and is nice and sandy and safe for swimming when the sea is calm. The chalet park is dog friendly. It is a nice quiet venue and the local walks are good. Good relaxing holiday. Ok for kids on the beach with a nice cafe.

"Finally - peace and quiet"

Mr Wingfield - Stayed with partner, Sep 2023

But once again, the beauty of the site and the peaceful surroundings more than made up for it…

We have stayed at Church wood valley a lot over many years and love the atmosphere of the place, it is w onderful to be so close to Plymouth but in a lovely quiet spot unspoiled, the trees and shrubs the wildlife it is just a fantastic place. The beach nearby is great with a lovely tea room toilets riding stables and marine centre plenty for everyone, there is also forest school. The cabins are fully equipped for all you need and if you have a problem the staff are very friendly and approachable, the shop on site also has a lot of your daily needs. So I have recommended Churchwood to other friends and they have also enjoyed their stay, so I would recommend Churchwood to anyone wanting a place to stay in Devon. Dogs are also welcome which is a bonus for us. There is a laundry on site if needed as well. This time we visited Buckfastleigh steam railway definitely a place to visit. The market and shops in Plymouth and the Barbican are great lots of variety.

The staff went the extra mile to ensure we had a perfect week, firstly ensuring we had easy access due to my partner having mobility problems, even sourcing a more suitable armchair for our cabin. The cabin was extremely well equipped, very clean and lovely views over the valley. The shop was very well stocked and the homemade pasties and sausage rolls were delicious! Everyone was very friendly and we felt at home immediately. There are some lovely walks all around the area and the private beach is a short walk from the site. Plymouth Hoe is only a short distance away and Mount Batten and Jennycliff are perfect spots for looking out onto Plymouth Sound, both providing free car parking which is rare these days. Altogether a perfect holiday.

Clean and spacious rooms and a perfect base in which to explore one many different activities or places. Handy distance from Plymouth or just enjoy the peaceful surroundings. After 25 years of visiting as a family with children to nearly retired couple we still find new places and things to do. - and take the dog along too.

Only have the best things to say about Wembury Bay and the surrounding Devon area. In terms of the cabins... they're basic and clean and have the main facilities one would expect. I think an airer and/or a washing line would be useful to hang wet towels etc (we remembered to bring ours this time). The mattresses though are unacceptable. They've been dodgy all the past years too but I think as we're getting older we're increasingly uncomfortable... It sadly will be a consideration for next year as not having a good night's sleep in such a quiet beautiful location is difficult to accept. Would also love the shop to be open longer hours. Thank you!

I have visited Churchwood Valley many times over the years and both my daughter and I were so excited to be visiting again. It more than exceeded our expectations, brought back many happy memories and made new ones with my son-in-law. We definitely intend to visit again. The setting is spectacular with the cabins set among the trees on the hillside a short walk from the beach through the water meadow. The beach itself is a child's paradise with a stream running onto it, sand, pebbles and wonderful rock pools teeming with aquatic life at low tide. Cliff walks in both directions with wading birds and spectacular views. The only downside are the uncomfortable beds, otherwise the accommodation is warm and comfortable.

"Nice hidden cabins close to the sea"

We found everything we needed for our Family-holidays. It is a quiet place to stay and good for walks, and for visiting Plymouth. The hosts are very friendly.
