Churchwood Valley Holiday Cabins

Churchwood Style Cabin (1 Double & 1 Twin Room)

Lodge
2 Bedrooms
Sleeps 4
Max 2 pets
From £67 per night

Accepted Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Really surprised at the standard of the cabins.

Enjoyed our holiday at Churchwood Valley. The accommodation was of a high standard with all that you needed for a self catering holiday. With modern kitchen appliances, comfortable seating area and an excellent bathroom shower with good power and hot water. Just a short walk to the beach and south west coastal path. The only draw back was the very narrow lanes making driving reasonably difficult. Nevertheless we are considering a return to Churchwood. As we did enjoy our stay.

Quiet time in the woods

Excellent cabins hidden away from it all, but close to a beach and the city's facilities. So peaceful apart from the owl, squirrels and jackdaws😏. Loved it and the staff are so helpful.

Full of mindfulness

Yallop, J - 24/05/2024

No need to try and sort out what mindfulness is, just spend time at Churchwood and you will feel refreshed, at peace and stress free. Walk through the woods to the sea, at night if you want, have a cream tea, sit on the beach, walk miles along the Coastal Path, sit and read. If you are shrewd, you will tell everyone the signal is poor, switch your phone off and only put it on when you feel like facing the world again. Take the ferry to Plymouth or Cornwall, walk to the pub for lunch or maybe dinner, go surfing, paddle boarding, swim, hunt in rock pools or finally do nothing, smell the sea, listen to the sound of the waves and chill. Give yourself time to loose the madness of modern life, slow down and just be.

Magical Location

We started visiting Churchwood Valley about 35 years ago with our young children. It has a place in our hearts so we still try to visit yearly, now with our fourth dog.The situation is perfect not only for the beach and countryside but also within easy distance of Plymouth with its wealth of Naval history and shops. There are also many National Trust properties to visit with the beautiful Saltram House and gardens being the closest to Wembury. The area is very dog friendly with the main beach off limits during the Summer months but further along the scenic coastal path, there are beaches accessible all year. The Mill Cafe is a ten minute walk away and having a coffee and a cake in this prime spot is one of our favourite things. There are many friendly pubs in the area but one of our favourites is ‘Rose and Crown’ in Yealmpton, a fifteen minute drive away.(very dog friendly) The cabins are well equipped and clean with Wi-Fi.There is a lovely little friendly shop too.Love it!

Peaceful bluebell retreat

The overall experience of staying at Churchwood Valley was very positive. You had given us very good instructions as to location of the site, and fortunately we had a very good SatNav, Waive, in the car ( we got lost on subsequent occasions when the satnav failed) On arrival I was pleasantly surprised by the size and location of the cabin. Every detail and convenience had been thought of , and any shortcomings were dealt with very rapidly (new kettle withing 15mins of asking) . All the staff were charming and helpful. Having taken over a small caravan park in West Wales in the 1980`s (infalation +++) and knowing all the pitfalls of running a campsite I could see all the hard work and effort that has gone in to make us holiday makers very comfortable and happy .Everything much appreciated. The location of your woodland retreat was delightful and I loved hearing the dawn chorus and the owls hooting at night.

Fabulous location and wildlife retreat

Everything went smoothly for our late March adventure. Booking was easy and all was well organised and welcoming on arrival. Our cabin was spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed. We were soon exploring the beach which us only a short walk away. The big wow though is the location and the tranquility of wooded valley next to the coast. We were serenaded by birdsong in fact the small cheeky bluetits settled unfazed on the window ledges of the lodge very often! We spotted voles, weasels during our stay and heard foxes and owls from twilight. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable for anything needed, but mostly allow you to enjoy this little slice of heaven without interruption. We enjoyed the Torpoint ferry, Mount Edgcumbe, Cawsand and Kingsand via a spectacular drive along Freathy cliffs (not to be missed) and spent time on Plymouth Hoe on the barbican only an easy drive away. Churchwood has been dog friendly for many years, an added bonus.

Second visit

Hodgkiss, Sarah - 05/01/2024

This was our 2nd visit to Churchwood in 2023, we requested the same cabin, as the size and location are ideal for us as ex locals we already know the area well. Roads are narrow, but that’s Devon. The cabins are clean and warm, although they can smell a bit musty on arrival. We love the location, it’s wonderful to open the door and hear birds, and the rumble of the sea, Wembury beach is beautiful all year. Having visited out of season, we’ve not met any staff in person, but they accommodated our request for specific cabin. We always go into Plymouth, where there are so many local pubs, restaurants, cafes etc to chose from, Capn Jaspers is a particular favourite for our teenagers. We have also visited the Old Mill Cafe at Wembury Beach for pasties & ice creams. We’d recommend parking at Mountbatten and catching the ferry across to the Barbican, particularly if you’re visiting the aquarium, which we’d also recommend. (If you watched the recent BBC series, it’s a must visit.
