Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.

Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.

There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.

This compact cabin is great for two people and comes with a double bedroom equipped with a bath and shower room. The cabin also comes with a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, an under counter fridge and microwave, and a TV with DVD player. Located in the centre of the site, this A2 cabin has a peaceful and private patio and is frequently visited by wildlife on the park.

A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.

There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Lovely cabins in amongst the trees on a hillside with your own garden. All of the cabins are spread out, so you don’t feel overlooked. 10 min walk to the sea, lovely walks all around. Can be hard walking up hills, but you can drive to the beach to their own private car park. There’s a shop for the necessities if you need them.

This was our 2nd visit to Churchwood Valley, the 1st being some 32 years ago and we weren't disappointed. We booked an A2 Plus which had everything we needed. It was clean and comfortable and the information we received about our stay was very thorough so we knew exactly what to take. The location is perfect if you like peace and quiet and walking, (and don't mind hills). The lanes around the valley are very narrow, but with passing places. Most drivers were considerate and drove with care. We were grateful for the free parking near the beach. There is a Co-op nearby and a larger Morrisons supermarket towards Plymouth. We took our own barbeque and used that most nights. There are 3 nice nearby pubs - Eddystone Inn, The Odd Wheel and The Mussel Inn. We walked to the Odd Wheel and Mussel Inn from Churchwood Valley, (about 1.5 miles each way). We eat in the Eddystone Inn and the Mussell Inn and both were very good, but I would recommend booking.

We booked the A2 plus for our stay and weren't disappointed. Check in instructions were very clear. In terms of the location it is ideal if you like walking and can cope with steep hills. It was great to have use of the free car park by the sea too. Be prepared to drive on some narrow lines in the area, most other drivers were careful and there were parking places.

"Woodland paradise"

Mr M Strohmaier - Stayed with partner, Aug 2023

I use as a place to stay whilst visiting my daughter. I love the quietness and wooded setting. We had a problem with the door lock on arrival and this was promptly repaired , so excellent customer service which I consider important. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Great location, the lanes are narrow though, accommodation was clean and well equipped and reasonably priced, not far from Wembury Beach and coastal path, not flat very steep incline towards the holiday park from the beach, but no problem for people without mobility issues, we took our greyhound, she loved it, staff friendly when we occasionally saw them, on site shop, or short drive to nearest supermarket, tried the Odd Wheel for a meal, very good,

We love Churchwood and have been coming on holiday there for several years and it never disappoints. Now our friends from Dorset join us in a nearby cabin and are delighted to be able to enjoy a holiday with their dog. Familiar favourite activities include walking to Rocket Point and chatting to Bill the boatman on the local ferrya Ross to Noss Mayo for lunch at The Ship Inn, or walking in the other direction to HeybrookBay for a drink or meal at The Eddystone. Swimming in the sea at Wembury Beach especially in the early evening is a treat or we take books down to the beach and stop off for a delicious coffee, pasty, flapjack or cream tea at the Old Mill Cafe. Back at our cabin we enjoy meals together and an evening walk around Churchwood where the twinkling lights illuminate tree trunks and the paths while owls hoot overhead and the bays dip and dive. It's all wonderful! The friendly staff, wildness and unspolit surroundings make it a joy to stay. Thank you Churchwood.

Have returned to Churchwood many times, it is relaxing, peaceful and the setting within the trees makes you feel like you are in a Treehouse watching the wildlife around you. The Cabins can be basic, but they have everything you need and the location of Wembury beach and views of the Mewstone make it magical. Be prepared for hilly walking as access to the beach by foot can be a bit steep in places, but you can also access by car.

Churchwood valley offers a quiet surroundings for switching off from the busy life. It has WiFi, TV and a booklet of activity around Plymouth, however we spent our holiday feeding birds (in the garden provided with our cabin), going for walks and getting into Plymouth by boat for a nice breakfast. Staff at the Valley are very friendly and helpful, shop offers basic food, but ice-cream was delicious and within 3min walk when it was 25degrees.
