Accepted Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This compact cabin is great for two people and comes with a double bedroom equipped with a bath and shower room. The cabin also comes with a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, an under counter fridge and microwave, and a TV with DVD player. Located in the centre of the site, this A2 cabin has a peaceful and private patio and is frequently visited by wildlife on the park.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Stayed in an A2 cabin on High Road with a breathtaking view of the valley. Beach is only a short walk away (but steep hill so you will need to be fit if going on foot). Nature right on your doorstep, some rare birds and butterflies about if you stop and watch. If you did want a break from the beach trek there is still plenty to do and see. Pro tip is to go out and watch the stars.Cabin was adorable, a little small perhaps but came with everything we needed for a self catering trip; pots, pans, microwave, fridge with freezer, utensils, a sofa and TV. I found the bed to be very comfy and a decent size. The bath and shower facilities were totally fine and no different to what I have at home. It is a cabin in the woods, so be prepared for occasional spiders, moths and flies. The shop was surprisingly well stocked, they even had vegan and vegetarian food in the freezer. The staff were really friendly. All in all I would have expected to pay a lot more for a holiday of this quality.

The cabins have everything that you need. They are cosy in the wind and rain , and you can sit outside in the sunshine. The little shop has the basics things that you may need but lots of shops, pub and places to eat in the area. Lots of great walks for us and our two dogs, that love to go on the doggy beach ( not the main one) it quite and peaceful where you can watch and hear the wildlife. Just a great base for your holiday.

Staff friendly & attentive,sofa-uncomfortable, no support, when we arrived the lodge was very dusty on walls in bedroom & was musty smelling Hot water was dangerously scolding hot, could do with a limiter on it.WIFI-non existent
Thank you for your review, although we are obviously disappointed that you weren't completely happy with some aspects of your stay. We would like to address the issues which you raised, firstly, our WIFI. It can be somewhat patchy, it's because of our location, but having said that, we can often help if a guest lets us know that they are having difficulties. If you had made us aware at the time, we would certainly have resolved your issues with the hot water and the seating arrangements, and attended to any areas where you felt that our housekeeping had been lacking. We are sorry that you weren't delighted by your experience of Churchwood, but thank you once again for your feedback.

We have been staying at Churchwood for over a decade, sometimes bringing friends and family. Highlights are the coastal walks, boat trips and the site for immersion in wildlife. This family run site is warm, welcoming and friendly and we love supporting the on site shop for gifts, everyday needs and of course the prized Churchwood honey!Favourite activities include cliff walks across to Plymouth, Mount Batten with fabulous views, boat trips across the River Yealm and food at The Ship Inn at Noss Mayo and in the other direction, The Eddlestone. Our favourite coffee and lunchtime bagels and cakes are found at the fabulous Koala Karlous with great playlists and a combination of a Devon and Australian vibe!Churchwood is the ideal sustainable and nature compatible base for exploring this entire coastline and we hope to continue visiting for many years to come.

We love staying at Churchwood, as it feels that once you arrive, the peaceful surroundings lull you into a relaxing and calm holiday mood. The way the cabins are set amongst the trees, with the birds and wildlife around you is lovely. They are basic cabins, but have everything you need and the proximity of Wembury bay and pretty views of the Church, Mill Cafe, coastline and Mewstone are a joy. If you want a tranquil holiday away, then this is ideal.

We have stayed here many times over the years, my as a child with her family too. We love the quiet and peaceful nature of the set up, the short rural walk to the beach and the surrounding wildlife. We always feel thoroughly refreshed after being here and will continue to visit regularly. Let's not forget that it is dog friendly and within easy reach of other sights and attractions, so a good base for exploring the area.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 nights at Churchwood Valley and wished it had been longer. The 1 bedroom cabin was perfect for me and the dog with the proximity of the beach and coastal path being one of the highlights. Although the furnishings are a little dated, it was comfortable and warm, and well equipped. The patio area was lovely although I didn't get chance to use it. One niggle was the very inconsistent WiFi but I am reassured that is being looked into. A suggestion would be a gate to the patio then the dog has some secure outside space. I look forward to returning for a longer stay soon.

Churchwood Valley is a beautiful peaceful place to stay. The staff we encountered were all very helpful and friendly. It is an ideal spot if you want to just park your car and walk around the area and along the coastal footpaths. The beach is just a 10 minute walk away. The accommodation was very comfortable. The cabin was well thought out with all of the essentials you would need. The information booklet in the cabin was excellent. The coastal footpaths in the area offer stunning views of the channel. The valley is full of birds too, the birdsong was lovely. Definitely a peaceful retreat, we we will definitely return to.

We love this place! 3rd time we’ve stayed here in 12yrs. Always with 2 big chilled dogs. Fact the area is so quiet, so close to nature & has lots of beautiful walks on our doorstep is a big plus! Birds are lovely. Beaches/cliffs..great walks. Wifi so much better this year than previous which, was a welcomed surprise. Well managed & communicated instructions. Could have done with shop being open/stocked up of fresh foods but early season & got by, by walking down to local shop/having dinner at a lovely local pub. The only improvement opportunities we commented on:- blinds in lounge & kitchen very dirty / need replacing (bedroom ones lovely)- garden area could do with a ‘gate’ to secure private area & give some degree of privacy, we had a few people look directly into our lounge area & had to pull the patio curtain across for privacy. Appreciate the openness of these areas/trying to keep the fencing natural looking but other cabins had privacy gate & would also aid dog/child safety
Thank you for leaving us such a great review. We really appreciate your feedback and are taking steps to sort out those blinds which you mentioned. We are also commencing a phase of tree and hedge planting and will definitely look at ways in which we can improve the privacy at this cabin. We hope you will book again before too long.
