The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite ideal for Hobbit House glamping in Yorkshire. The campsite is in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite. We like to go the extra mile for you so when you feel like something a little different or just don’t fancy packing up the car with that wet tent at the end of your holiday why not book yourself into one of our cosy Hobbit Houses?

With a PROPER double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk) in our luxury Yorkshire glamping Hobbit Houses plus “Up-cycled” outdoor furniture (chairs/benches and tables) made from wooden pallets and decking, fairy lights, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, glasses, BBQ tools, portable single gas stove, kettle, and cushions and throws not to mention your own Log-burner inside and your own private campfire outside- there’s quite a lot included!

We suggest bringing a frying pan or two (no pans provided) for those tasty local bacon and eggs in the morning, brought to you by our friendly local butcher - on site on Saturday mornings!!

You will need to bring your own bedding, (none supplied) it is so much nicer having your own pillow you’ve got to admit! It can get a little cool during the night (even in mid-summer) so bring a nice warm duvet.

Other items you will need to bring yourselves include; dishcloths, bag of tealights, and perhaps a gazebo to shelter in from the (rain!) sun.

Our Hobbit Houses have fairy lights and no electricity for the very same reasons mentioned above…

Each House also has its own fire-pit.

In the ideal location for your North Yorkshire Glamping break, The Hideaway is situated on land attached to a 708 year old medieval manor – Baxby Manor! Built in 1308 on the edge of Husthwaite village and nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, The Hideaway is conveniently just 17 miles from the historic city of York.

A peaceful stay where nothing is forgotten!

Ingram, Carol - 09/05/2026

The site is peaceful despite being naturally busy on our bank holiday weekend. It was also extremely clean - toilet/shower block as well as hoglet house (where we stayed). Complementary logs/kindling for the wood-burning stove on arrival. Comfortable, cosy hoglet house with a lovely solar-powered night time lantern on each hoglet house's outdoor table. Proper, sensible recycling system. We didn't use any other facilities. The only thing we (and our immediate neighbours) had trouble with was wifi. None of us were able to get hooked up to that. However, given that the stay was designed to be an escape to nature, and that we had sufficient mobile data, that ended up not being a problem.

Unexpectedly exceptional

I'd like to preface this by stating that my wife is not a camper. She detests the idea of camping. After visiting Baxby Manor she asked when we can visit again! The photos dont do it justice. Its a exceptional site with just amazing facilities. Rebecca and the team are setting the standard that other locations struggle to compete with.

We had a lovely two night break in one of the hoglet houses! The facilities on site were immaculate! The little shop had the perfect treats for the campfire and the pizza shack was the highlight of my son's stay! Log fires, bunk beds, chickens and campfires what's not to love!

I was looking for a cute little overnight stay with my 2 daughters while we explored the area. So happy I chose Baxby manor, we stayed in the hoglet house which was beautiful! The set up was so cosy, the place itself idyllic. My youngest was so happy seeing the chickens and lambs. It was very peaceful and staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. Showers and toilets were very very clean, pizza shack was delicious. Would highly recommend to people and we will certainly be back. Thank you!

Our second time to the hideaway and no less impressive, never realised the joy you would get from creating a roaring fire in the hoglet house, staff are extremely friendly, the rooms are cozy and it’s just a beautiful place to get away a night, see you next year you saucy devils

lovely clean well equipped. helpful staff. great pizza. the only reason i could consider giving any negatives would be to discourage more people from going there, so that I can always guarantee being able to book!

We had an epic stay in the height of summer. It’s a fabulous place in the heart of Yorkshire with access to fun for all of the family. The environment is curated for a chilled and relaxed vibe, with thoughtful touches. The team are wonderful and friendly and you can even have a little pampering with a massage, facial or manicure. We’ll be back, as we have been, many a time. It truly is a place to chill out, shutdown and enjoy family and nature.Thank you Barney & Team.💕

Excellent peaceful retreat

We stayed in the hoglet houses and thought it was good value for money. The facilities were of a very good standard and the staff were very friendly. The chickens were a nice touch for the kids to visit. The only downside would be a lack of open space for the younger children to play in directly on site, as the chickens are surrounded by tents that did seem to take up as much of the space to the hutch as possible so you did sometimes feel like you were intruding on others personal space. I would absolutely go back though, both with and without the children
