Stay at Lordstones

Crawford, Sarah - 04/06/2026

Great Roundhouse and grass area for children to play. Although discraceful facilities not cleaned at all during our stay. There was a blocked toilet, toilet roll all over the floor and the hand towel dispenser stopped working. The shower door was propped open by a bin as the locks were broken which isn’t something you want to touch after showering. The pot wash had no blue roll so the sinks were filthy, leaving you to wash up in dirty sinks as there was no way of being able to properly clean the sinks down afterwards meaning people were leaving sinks dirty and full of leftover food. Our friends had seen the cleaner as they arrived before us and she told them she only works three days and was told not to go in midweek as they weren’t busy enough, however the manager told me he has to tell the cleaner to clean! The card machine also sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t meaning that we couldn’t order food due to not being able to pay as they were asking for cash only.

Good afternoon Sarah,So, it appears that we have had to receive two poor reviews from your stay, with not giving us the opportunity to reply & offer any feedback when you left our site at Lordstones.I reiterate our apology that you did not enjoy your stay and we will of course action upon your valid points made and of course, to improve our cleaning operations on site as we do not want any guests to not enjoy their stay.I also would like to offer some legitimate comment and context to your points made:-1. I can assure you that the amenity block was cleaned over the duration of your stay, but you are beholden to the behaviour of your fellow guests and how they do not clean away any toilet rolls or hand towels after use. The amenity block is checked and cleaned over a weekend and the blocked WC had to be rodded out by our caretaker after guests had left.Rest assured, our cleaner that your friend spoke to comes to service the accommodation units three times a week, on the changeover days that are specified by us. The amenity block is then managed by our management staff, with assessment and cleaning when required. I am not sure what your comment means in terms of 'telling the cleaner to clean' as she is a professional lady who works diligently and will be dismayed to hear such a fabrication.2. With regards our connectivity, again please be assured that neither do we not want our internet connections to be down EVER as this inhibits our ability to take payments, have any telephone lines (which are now digital) and check on bookings, emails etc. We are in a rural location with our own water supply, using a spring fed and bore hole supply, a limited electricity feed & restricted broadband services using satellite/radio services that very occasionally do not work that well but our providers quickly remedy this where possible. We would simply ask that we can welcome you back to stay with us on another occasion and that our explanation and some detail/mitigation shows we do not rest easy on feedback of any kind.

Great Location for camping

Lleweyn, Gemma - 28/08/2025

I personally had an amazing experience Loved camping but upgraded to the camping hut at the last minute which was perfect for us as a family (4 of us)Only downside was the showers were not in full use and the only one working was cold. ( fortunately for me I Did enjoy the cold water experience for my 7.30 wake up) The rest of my party ‘ not as impressed’.😜🤣Beautiful walks. We will return to this location again.

Lovely open space. Friendly staff

Toilet and shower area needs to be monitored more frequently. Milk in roundhouse had gone off. Luckily we had brought some. Pull out bed was really dirty. Cleaned it down before use. Area is beautiful. Sights are astonishing. A walk up to the chair is a must on every visit. Pub and cafe staff are very accomodating. Food is absolutely splendid.

Roundhouse

The roundhouse was clean and comfortable. Good for BBQ. The campsite itself has a fantastic location with great walks. Plenty to explore in the local area. The Cafe/bar is good for refreshments and there is a small shop. Staff friendly. Score would be much higher overall but the men’s toilet and shower facilities were poor in comparison to the women’s. They were in need of a good clean. It’s a shame as overall a great site.

I've written to Lordstones with my specific complaints and suggested actions mainly about poor camper conduct, hygiene and maintenance.

One of my favourite campsites, this was my fourth visit and based on my experience I would not return.Noisy group, far too loud, way past 10pm. Dogs off lead and in pods). Cars parked in all the sites. I rang the estate number with a complaint after 10 and had no response. Suggestion - Enforce the rules of the site by walking around at close of cafe in a hi-vis and asking campers if they are ok and checking on the rules. Politely enforcing dogs on leads, cars in carpark etc. A second tour at 10pm to make sure site is quiet. Added to this if you are booking on a group of 30 then don't book a family in on the same night. Or at least ring the booker and notify them. We would definitely have moved the date to a different weekend if you'd told me as we had 3 kids under 10 and my 76 year old dad. Broken facilities - 2 showers out of order in women's toilet, 2 locks on gents toilet doors broken, one shower in gents broken and connecting doors to showers. Sign on pot wash declaring it "ou

Beautiful Yorkshire

Beautiful scenery 🙏🙏the round house is basic but it’s all you need 👍the only thing I would change are the opening times from the shop and cafe the stop serving food at 15:00 and then it closes at 16:00 no facilities are open after 16:00 no chance for walkers to have a nice cup of coffee or a shower and use a toilet after 16:00 it’s also a time when families would like to come and spend a bit of evening time together it’s not a complaint this but it’s something that could improve this beautiful place!!!

No hand towels in toilets, no milk in fridge for tea or coffee, not allowed to park outside glamping pod. No food available on Sunday evening.

Hi Beth,Thank you for your review of your stay.We apologise that your stay did not live up to expectations, this is something we certainly do not want to hear.We also apologise for the lack of hand towels in our amenity block, this was an oversight and our toilet and showers are checked regularly; this can be the case on busy periods of business with wastage but rest assured, we will action this with more regular restocking. With regards the provision of milk in the fridge, we have never confirmed this would be the case. We certainly provide milk for our guests should they ask & when we have provided a small jug or such like, it was wasted. Our shop, camping & café staff are more than willing to assist with any requests of this type.Your Roundhouse is situated in our secluded and private camping field. The sub strata of this area in terms of soil is very shallow, before shale and clay; atypical of the North York Moors location. Thus, we try and restrict vehicular use so as to protect the ground in wet and damp conditions; this has enabled us to keep the damage over the grass field areas to a minimum & of course, we allow vehicle access to drop off luggage etc on arrival. We simply do not have the necessary trade to open on a Sunday evening I am afraid; we are open 7 days a week and cater for our visitors and guests on site accordingly, with the evening restaurant opening being purely seasonal over three nights & our earlier closing on a Sunday evening. We do hope that you can see fit to change your review a little so as to try and support small, family owned hospitality & leisure businesses like ours during such difficult operating times. We also hope you can return to Lordstones and we look forward to welcoming you again.
