The Hideaway is a small, relaxed and friendly campsite ideal for Hobbit House glamping in Yorkshire. The campsite is in the midst of our 110 acre farm, surrounded by trees and bounded on one side by a stream. It is off the beaten track, but only a stroll from the village of Husthwaite. We like to go the extra mile for you so when you feel like something a little different or just don’t fancy packing up the car with that wet tent at the end of your holiday why not book yourself into one of our cosy Hobbit Houses?

With a PROPER double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk) in our luxury Yorkshire glamping Hobbit Houses plus “Up-cycled” outdoor furniture (chairs/benches and tables) made from wooden pallets and decking, fairy lights, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, glasses, BBQ tools, portable single gas stove, kettle, and cushions and throws not to mention your own Log-burner inside and your own private campfire outside- there’s quite a lot included!

We suggest bringing a frying pan or two (no pans provided) for those tasty local bacon and eggs in the morning, brought to you by our friendly local butcher - on site on Saturday mornings!!

You will need to bring your own bedding, (none supplied) it is so much nicer having your own pillow you’ve got to admit! It can get a little cool during the night (even in mid-summer) so bring a nice warm duvet.

Other items you will need to bring yourselves include; dishcloths, bag of tealights, and perhaps a gazebo to shelter in from the (rain!) sun.

Our Hobbit Houses have fairy lights and no electricity for the very same reasons mentioned above…

Each House also has its own fire-pit.

In the ideal location for your North Yorkshire Glamping break, The Hideaway is situated on land attached to a 708 year old medieval manor – Baxby Manor! Built in 1308 on the edge of Husthwaite village and nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors, The Hideaway is conveniently just 17 miles from the historic city of York.

Both times we have stayed there we have stayed in a pod or Hobbit house which are great. The kids loved pushing their things from the car in a wheelbarrow and the fact that you are allowed to have a campfire is a bonus. The washing up room and shower block/toilets are immaculate. We will definitely come again!

It was our first time glamping and such a unique experience. Staff were incredibly friendly and the facilities were immaculate. We had our 9 month old daughter and 5 year old daughter with us and the site was fantastic for both ages. I was originally a bit worried about bringing such a small baby glamping in October but the facilities were spot on. The only small problem we encountered was that my eldest daughter was petrified of the handprint and footprint stickers used in the toilets to decorate for Halloween. It shocked her when we arrived on the first evening and from then on she cried every time we took her to the toilets. It was a battle to get her to go back in and in the end we found we had to guide her into a cubicle each time with her eyes closed. It hasn’t put us off returning as the rest of our stay was absolutely perfect, however it is something we wanted to make you aware of given the fact that other young children stay with you.

We camped here 2 years ago and have wanted to come back ever since. We booked a hobbit house this time and it was fab. The cabin was spacious with beds for 4, table, benches, log burner and outdoor seating areas with fire pit. All built to a high standard and well supplied with single ring burner, bowls, plates and cutlery. We just needed to bring pans and bedding. The site has a gold award for conservation and an abundance of wildlife. Owls, foxes, badgers, buzzards, and spiders locked in death struggles with daddy-longlegs’s were all in evidence. Recycling and eco friendly practices are a welcome aspect of life on this site. The facilities include an onsite shop, male/female showers/toilets, an accessible bathroom for Radar key holders, a washing up room with 3 sinks, fridge and freezer, and a drying room too. All is beautifully clean and customers are expected to help with that by removing shoes indoors, and cleaning up after themselves. The best thing about this site is the people: Barney the boss is friendly and helpful and continues to develop this lovely site. All the staff are also efficient and approachable, and many fellow visitors were regulars which speaks volumes. If you want a quiet well run rural site with quiet after 11pm and a great eco friendly ethos then you can’t do better.

We were looking for a place to camp for a couple of nights, but when we saw the Hobbit Houses, we thought we’d do a bit of glamping and it was absolutely fabulous. Camping really isn’t the same without a campfire and this place really gets this with fire pits on every plot. The house was brilliant and the tent pitches were great and we’re looking forward to coming back with our tent. The facilities can’t be faulted and the owners have got it just right. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough, it’s lovely.

We stayed 2 nights in one of the hobbit huts which have everything to allow an easy camping experience- if you like camping but are just too knackered to bother putting up and taking down a tent, then these are ideal. You only need to take bedding, torches/lights, pans and something to wash and dry up with. If it rains, you can have a cosy time playing games inside. If it's nice weather you can sit on your own deck and listen to the stream and bird song. The coffee van is a nice touch and makes life even more easy! On our day of departure, we got everything washed up and packed into the car and then had breakfast from the van before checking out (note that the pastries sell out! And you need to use cash here although the shop accepts cards). The campsite shop is stocked with some nice stuff- fresh eggs, local cider and nice icecreams. Also some handy stuff like scewers, marshmallows and wood for the fire. The wash room facilities were lovely and clean, more like a hotel than a campsite and the pot wash room has a fridge for essentials only. Although the site has lots of nooks and crannies for children to explore and also a stream (which my oldest went for a dip in), I feel the site could be further improved by providing some designated spot where children can play together and congregate- I think this would have made it easier for my little ones to find some friends to play with (they were too shy to approach children on the neighbouring camping field). Even if this is not a typical play park, perhaps something like a mud kitchen which children could play with using natural materials from around the site.... or a tree trunk to balance on. The campsite is within walking distance of a village and within about 30 mins of two nice National Trust sites (so if you are a NT member you could potentially have a nice cheap little holiday). We stopped at Spillmans play barn on the way to the campsite and had a really nice lunch while watching the children play. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again sometime....maybe we will take our tent next time if we are not as knackered.....
