Baxby Manor, situated on the edge of Husthwaite village, was built in 1308 and is nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors. The perfect place to stay for those wanting to be close to nature but also have the option to visit locals towns and attractions.

With a PROPER double bed plus two single beds (one a bunk) in our Hoglet Houses plus up-cycled outdoor furniture, solar fairy lights, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs, glasses, BBQ tools, portable single gas stove, kettle, and cushions and throws not to mention your own Log-burner inside and your own private campfire outside- there’s quite a lot included!

We suggest bringing a frying pan or two (no pans provided) for those tasty local bacon and eggs in the morning, brought to you by our friendly local butcher - on site on Saturday mornings!!

You will need to bring your own bedding, (none supplied) it is so much nicer having your own pillow you’ve got to admit! It can get a little cool during the night (even in mid-summer) so bring a nice warm duvet.

Other items you will need to bring yourselves include; dishcloths, bag of t-lights, and perhaps a gazebo to shelter in from the (rain!) sun.

Our Hoglet Houses have fairy lights and no electricity for the very same reasons mentioned above…

Each House also has its own fire-pit.

At Baxby Manor, we have a whole host of incredible wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for otters who live in Ings Beck. Look out for buzzards and kingfishers flying above and of course rabbits, stoats, weasels and squirrels playing amongst the trees. If you look closely, you may even spot a bat!

The cleanest campsite

Smith, Caroline - 03/04/2024

We were so glad to be revisiting Baxby Manor; we knew we were in for a relaxing time. The online booking process was very easy and we made a last minute booking for a hoglet home. The accommodation was very clean, as were the showers/toilets (my most favourite part of visiting Baxby Manor). The staff were very accommodating, jumping from pizza shack to shop, as we needed various things. We even got to see the newly-hatched chicks, which were a massive highlight for our children. Our fireplace warmed our holiday home up very quickly - we were very cosy indeed. We made a couple of visits to the park at the end of the drive, provided by the parish council. Also had fabulous food at the very accommodating pub round the corner (Pear and Partridge, which we visited when they shouodn't have been serving food, but they happily cooked for us anyway). We didn't want to leave Baxby Manor...but we'll be back again and would highly recommend!

Perfect hideaway

Hurst, Jamie - 25/02/2024

We absolutely loved our stay here. The scenery and atmosphere was just what we needed coming from a busy city, this hideaway was just the peace and quiet we needed. We were met with a warm hot chocolate to settle in on and the following morning we were presented with a breakfast of our choice which absolutey made the day from there. The hoglet house was so inviting and once we got the fire going it became a little haven of heat so much so we barely left. The surrounding hoglets were all empty which for us made it even better as it was so relaxing The facilities on site are so clean and easy to use.We had reservations about how difficult the hideaway would be to find using a satnav however it was perfect and stopped us right outside the car park for the houses. The staff were excellent, perfect to talk to and always on hand when needed. We loved our time here and would definitely come back again.

Wow what an adventure....living like a Hobbit in the wilds!

I was worried when we first booked this holiday how remote it would be and how we would cope living in a Hobbit house with no electricity with a child. How wrong I was. We had an excellent few days and our daughter loved the Hoggleton house. The staff were amazing from day one to helping my Dad's van out of the mud on our final day due to torrential rain the night before (the start of Storm Babet). The facilities were great and absolutely spotless. The Pizza Shack was awesome and also catered for breakfast in the morning too where you can get lovely hot rolls and waffles. It was very dark on the site at night (October) but it only adds to the adventure. Make sure you bring a strong torch. The Hoggleton house has its own wood burner so it was super cosy at night. There was also a firepit outside which we made use of on our first night to cook our dinner. Would recommend a stay here - we will definitely be back!!!!

Absolutely wonderful site that has thought of everything! The attention to detail has been second to none and as a result it has been one of the most enjoyable visits of the year. We loved everything and will definitely be back.

Off grid, family friendly

Liston, Jane - 13/08/2023

Lots to recommend the site, especially fire pits, immaculate shower and toilet block and friendly staff. I didn’t think I’d be bothered about a pizza shack, but it came in super handy when we couldn’t cook and the pizza was excellent. Only two complaints: very limited solar lighting in our hut making in really quite difficult to see inside. I know the staff can’t do much about this, and kids should be allowed to play - but some of the persistent screeching!! We weren’t the only ones to find this a problem. There were a lot of kids on the site, but only a couple making that persistent racket. It’s quite expensive but we took advantage of a. 3 for 2 deal Jane Liston

Lovely spot!

Lovely campsite in a quiet location away from any busy roads. We stayed in a Hogleton house, which was quite spacious for the 2 of us. It felt very private and secluded with the carefully placed trees and hedge planting. The showers and toilets were immaculate, very clean and tidy. The only negative would be that the floor of the Hogleton house was quite dirty, there was dust clumps collected all around the low bed, which did effect my asthma. It really didn't look like it had been swept properly for weeks.But....this was a minor point compared to everything that was right with The Hideaway.

Beautiful campsite

This was the second time I've stayed at the Hideaway and we have already booked to come again. It really is a beautiful campsite. Strategic planting and wild grasses afford privacy between campers as well as encouraging an abundance of wildlife. We stayed in a Hoglet House this time rather than camped. The little houses are really cosy and it will be great to get the log fire going next time we stay. It was a bit too warm for it this time! The pizza shack is fab and I would definitely recommend taking a night off cooking to try it out. We also loved the addition of the cider bar up the lane from the local orchard. The rough and ready nature of it was charming, the staff friendly and the delicious cider cocktails were very welcome on a very warm evening.

Great little weekend

The facilities at Baxby are excellent and really like the pizza/breakfast place too. Everything you need is nearby. The only thing I think would be helpful in the hobbit house we stayed in it really needs a little shelf or stand/cupboard or something underneath the cutlery/plate area…… just to put some provisions in. Perhaps this could be considered? Loved the camp fire too and the littleShop has most things if you forget anything and has everything from tomato sauce in a small jar to local cider Great place for York access

We were all very impressed with The Hideaway. The friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the facilities really did stand out. The surrounding area is very nice and only a 10 minute walk up to the pub. Great spot!!
