Beautiful lodge, terrible fishing

We stayed in Grebe Lodge for 7 nights. The lodge was beautiful and the staff on the park were helpful and friendly.sumners Lake is described as a specimen lake for the experienced angler. It isn’t at all. The swims are too small and too close together - there are 4 lodges on the lake but also around 3 or 4 pods and about 10 touring pitches. You are too tight in and have no room to fish. Too many lines in the water put the fish off coming round the lodge side of the lake. We had 1 carp in 7 days. Really really disappointing and everyone on the lake said the same. One person we spoke to said it’s been like that for at least 7 years and there are hardly any carp in there. Avoid avoid avoid if you are a carp angler.

Second time we stayed stayed different lodges each time. booked for next year already. Unsure why the internet was so poor this year. Couldn’t receive call or text at time. Probably good thing as my husband would say. Could walk off site to lovely local store with fresh deli counter. Walk ever day round fishing lake find something different to see loads friendly people. Walked down to see feed cows sheep. Popped over to bar on site spot lunch and drinks. Food very fresh well well presented value for money. Or even slice cake tea/coffee. Loving food truck in the evening. For when you don’t wish to cook but want to eat bit later in the evening. Fantastic time 100 percent recommend

Stayed in Grebe Lodge which was generally comfortable although the bed was not. Amenities were good however would have appreciated a bath mat as we are elderly and not as agile as we once were. The lodge was clean and well insulated. The fishing from the platform was good with the best caught a carp of 12lb and a nice sized bream. The village shop was good and had what we needed. The cafe was good but expensive (a sign of the times). Generally a good holiday.

Grebe Lodge stay

Family of four adults staying at Grebe Lodge to spend time with family from Brighton. We arrived in the dark. The lodge was easy to find as the campsite is not large. I was happy with the lodge on the whole but it was worn and scuffed in areas. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen equipment was poor. The quality of the pans was inexpensive and had loose handles. The cutlery was again of an inexpensive quality and mismatched. There was a welcome package which was appreciated. In the daylight the campsite was lovely and well kept. The reception staff were friendly. The local large supermarket was about ten minutes away and I also bought some supplies from a farm shop just a few minutes away. Getting in and out of Brighton was easy. We did enjoy the stay and I would consider staying again. I did think it was expensive for what it was as there was a minimum of three nights even though we only needed two.

We thoroughly enjoyed our four day break in Grebe Lodge. Such peaceful and tranquil surroundings. The lodge itself had everything you would require for a comfortable stay. The reception staff and the Cafe by the Lake staff were super friendly and helpful. The cake, bread, eggs, milk, butter and wine that were provided was a real treat and were certainly well received. We will definitely be returning in the not too distant future.
