Bircham Windmill is an idyllic location with bakery, tearooms and windmill attraction on your doorstep to enjoy throughout the day and perfectly peaceful in the evening, not even passing traffic. The Romney Hut is warm and cosy, there is seating both inside and out, an outdoor cooking area, lovely home from home showers with shower mats free to use.
Romney has a double, pull out sofa bed and also has room for a child's camp bed. There is electric hook up with lights, toaster, kettle and fridge. A welcome cream tea and milk are included in your stay, with tea bags, coffee and sugar provided. Towels are included in the price, while duvet, pillows and a bed sheet are extra. There are three showers for the shared use of all guests and a games room with TV, washing up area and pool table as well as additional fridge and freezer for guests to use.
Standing in the heart of Norfolk's undulating fields, Bircham Windmill now looks as it did over 100 years ago. At that time over 300 mills ground corn for horse & cattle feed and bread-making in Norfolk. Today, very few windmills are left, and Bircham Mill is considered one of the best still remaining and it is area open to the public. Entrance to the gardens is included in the price of your stay, a discounted price is charged for you to climb the windmill.
Our onsite bakery is something of a local institution and serves a whole host of traditionally-baked treats made onsite.
Brancaster offers the closest beach. Walk half a mile left from the entrance and you can sometimes spot grey seals, who reside in the marshes around Titchwell Nature Reserve. Hunstanton beach is also easily reached from the campsite or, in the opposite direction, head to famous Holkham – a haunt of the royals with a ginormous stretch of sands and an equally beautiful backing of pine trees. Bircham Windmill is surrounded by the Sandringham Estate farm land and Sandringham house itself is open to the public during summer. Its a pleasant cycle from the campsite.
The onsite tearoom and bakery is a delight with Full English Breakfasts, pancakes, veggie breakfasts and more served daily from 9am. There are also plenty of good pubs in the vicinity. The nearest is in Great Bircham itself – The Kings Head – but driving (or cycling) to the coast pays dividends with pubs a plenty.
