Herding Hill Farm is around 1.5 miles walk from Haltwhistle which has a range of pubs, cafes and shops. There are a range of takeaways that deliver to our campsite for a small fee and we also offer home-made pizzas delivered direct to your own Castle Pod Friday evenings in season.

Haltwhistle is known as the Centre of Britain and Herding Hill Farm is ideally places with the Northumberland coast and castles and Lake District being around a hour's drive. The cities of Newcastle and Carlisle and market towns of Hexham and Corbridge are also just a short drive away.

Lovely place, so quiet! Great walks and local pubs. Staff seemed lovely and very helpful when arriving! Facilities in pod were great, had everything we needed. Only lesser point would be the breakfast, probably wouldn’t bother with it again for the price but the meat was of good quality. Thanks again!

A wonderful wintry weekend

Bargewell, Simon - 08/12/2023

Our 2nd visit to Herding Hill and our first winter stay. We were lucky enough to have freezing temperatures and snow over the 3 nights so were able to take advantage of the amazing super warm log burner in our Castle Pod. The experience of sitting in the hot tub on the deck in -6c temperatures looking at the amazing dark skies was exactly what we'd hoped for and we certainly weren't disappointed. The accommodation is 5 star, the staff excellent and with a fantastic pub (the mile castle inn) just a 10 minute walk away it all made for a perfect relaxing weekend away. We can't wait to come back. Thank you Simon & Amanda

Fantastic stay. Only wish it was longer!

I booked a 2 night stay for 1st December for our wedding anniversary. On arrival we were taken to our "pod" and shown how to use everything. We were given a phone number for any out of hour issues should we have any.The temperature outside was -2c when we arrived and the pod was still lovely and warm with the underfloor heating. The addition of the log burner was a lovely touch and I loved having that burning in the corner. With this lit, we turned off the heating till we went to bed. The pod stayed warm all night and at no point did we feel cold (something I did worry about)The pod had everything we could have needed for our stay.Outside there was seating to sit out and a fire pit along with the hot tub. It was lovely sat out in this with a glass of wine (plastic cups are provided as no glass is aloud in the hot tub). The decking is little slippery when frozen but we were warned about this on check in so knew to be careful. We will 100% be back for a longer stay! Thank yo

We stayed at Herding Hill for a long weekend this November. We stayed in a luxury pod, which was everything it promised to be. Clean, warm comfortable and very cozy. Everything we needed was provided to a very high standard. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the hot tub luxurious. We will definitely recommend Herding Hill to friends and hope to return soon.

We stayed in the castle pods for the second year in a row, the site is so relaxed and quiet, with its perfect placement of the dark-sky zone it makes for some wonderful views. Although the weather wasn't the best we were still able to see some lovely sky and plenty to keep us occupied. The staff are really helpful and will do anything to make your stay perfect.Thank you for the lively memories once again.
