A place for the adventurous seeking a truly wild experience. Glamping in army trucks and tents in the heart of the Norfolk countryside within easy reach of a 2000 acre rewilding project where iron-age pigs, Exmoor ponies and white park cattle roam free. Ideal for 3 families who want to escape the humdrum of daily life and let nature take hold.
Our 4 Ton Tents are two ex army trucks converted into luxury accommodation. Each one is kitted out for sleeping 5 with a double bed and a bunk bed and a separate bed in the cab upfront behind the driving seats (this is just under 6ft so not for tall people). There is a table, chairs and bench area in each truck.
The trucks are accessed by steep steps up to a platform and have a cover of weather-proof canvas with windows and roll up blinds, hence the name 4 ton tents!
There are also two canvas army tents; one tent has a double bed and 3 single solid-style camp beds. The other tent is a secondary hidey hole for inclement weather.
Fairy lights and lanterns are provided to light the inside of the accommodation but the camp is not lit so bring torches!
At the heart of the camp is a huge fire pit; a place to gather beneath the stars and listen for owls and bats overhead. We will provide plenty of wood for your stay and a canvas awning to one side as shelter from the sun or the rain.
We have converted an army trailer into a canvas covered kitchen and bathroom (no bath!) The open sided kitchen has cupboards, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and a plumbed in sink for washing up with hot water and cold for drinking. There is a gas hob and a couple of barbecues for cooking. We have made sure your food can be kept cold with 3 cold boxes - which can be filled with ice - for your drinks and food. There are two USB sockets in the kitchen for charging your phones (there is 4G on site for most networks). Around the back of the kitchen is a hot shower and a composting loo with a view.
We believe in local and sustainable food, and can provide and deliver bundles of meaty joy and other delicious things to your camp. These vary with the season, and can be ordered when you book.
Keep an eye out for red, fallow and roe deer as well as foxes, badgers, stoats and weasels. Hunting buzzards circle overheard and the nearby River Nar is teeming with fish, voles, frogs and mayflies. If you’re lucky you may even spot the flashing brilliance of an otter!
