Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

We stayed here and walked the coastal path into Plymouth. Lovely section of path and you can catch the bus back from Plymouth easily. Beds were really comfortable and the place was very tranquil and restful. Well looked after and homely. We arrived in the dark and was grateful for the maps we sent via email beforehand. Easy check in and check out too!

Another great stay at Churchwood, comfortable furnishings and well decorated. We love staying here, the peace and quiet is wonderful despite the weather which was surprisingly warm for October! Staff are always very friendly and chatty. We had a problem with our oven but it was fixed within a few hours. Downside was the spiders! They were huge this year and we had to evict them several times a day. However due to the hot weather this year the prediction was of spiders to be larger than normal everywhere and they were right. We stayed in Low Road as usual and the looking out at grazing horses and various birds is always restful. Definitely recommend a visit if you like restful holidays and fabulous staff

We have stayed many times over the years, it still has the same ambience of being away from hustle and bustle in amongst nature. The staff are so helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The setting is very natural and well placed access countryside, sea, estuaries as well as Plymouth city. We find it an ideal destination to stay with dogs especially before May and after September when dogs can go onto Wembury beach.

Churchwood suits us because of the well equipped cabin, the closeness to nature and the sea and the peaceful atmosphere. Sometimes the parking can be tricky but not this time.

Two things we felt could be improved. First the TV (Cello) in our cabin needs to be updated as the sound had a high pitched tinny speakers. Secondly the fridge/freezer requires updating with larger capacity unit.

Take a fire stick as not great TV reception in the evening. A few nice pubs , but quite expensive. Very steep area, not great for unfit or elderly. Lovely beach on site, except no dogs allowed during may- October.

We loved Churchwood Valley. The location is beautiful. The roads leading to it are a little tricky if you're a townie like us, but well worth it. Our little boy loved our cabin in the woods. We watched the birds and squirrels enjoying the bird table every morning through the big picture windows. It's so peaceful too, I will miss my morning cuppa on the patio, listening to the world waking up. You wouldn't know anyone else was there. The cabin is suprising roomy and comfortable and has everything you need for your stay. The on site shop is handy. The local beach is a short walk away and again, our little boy really enjoyed the rock pools and the'adventurous' walk down to it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. There's plenty of information available of local attractions, walks, wildlife etc in the information room which is also filled with all sorts books, games, toys.

We had a brilliant week at Churchwood Valley, everything was great! Parking right outside the cabin, little shop perfect for milk and toilet paper, friendly staff (and chickens), warm showers and beautiful views. We were very comfortable in our cabin which had everything we needed (although a drying rack or washing line would be very helpful after days at the beach) We felt very relaxed and well looked after. We spent most of the week on Wembury beach, bodyboarding and exploring the rock pools. It is a rocky beach so do take care on your feet and in the shallows. Our kids also loved a pony ride at the riding school, which is right next to the beach and you can get free parking! The cafe on the beach makes delicious pasties. We also walked along the coastal path towards Newton Ferrers - the walk was gorgeous but make sure you plan what to do at the destination otherwise you might be disappointed. Overall the perfect week and absolutely worth the long journey (from Yorkshire!)
