Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This Churchwood-style cabin accommodates up to four people in one double and one twin bedroom with a bath and shower/shower only. This unit has a modern kitchen with a good sized fridge-freezer and microwave. A TV and DVD player are provided to add some cosy entertainment to your stay. Providing high levels of affordable comfort, this cabin is located in a popular part of the site, and has a secluded patio with views across the valley.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Churchwood Valley is a special place, so peaceful and a beautiful atmosphere in a woodland valley leading down to the sea.Accessible through steep winding narrow Devon Lanes, to the private lanes and paths to our welcoming and well layed out cabin, with a patio, garden and a perfect view, ours looked across the valley where the horses from nearby Wembury riding stables were out at night. Bliss. The wildlife is special, bats, with a soundtrack of tawny owls, against the backdrop of the moon, a curious hedgehog that came up to me a couple of times to investigate my boots! great and blue tits, a territorial robin and many birds including a buzzard that came to the field every morning hopping around looking for worms. A short stroll down to the beach, perfect for swimming or relaxing. The east coast path took us to Warren point, a water taxi across the river Yealm, to the wonderful Ship Inn, great food.Thank you to the lovely staff at Churchwood Valley for a wonderful stay. We come with a 9 month year old baby. The lodge was perfect. Everything we needed. The lanes are a little narrow but it’s worth it. Very peaceful. Standing on the decking watching the birds squirrels in the trees above the cabin. There is a beach 3/4 min drive. You can walk it we didn’t stood steep for the pram.

My first impression of Churchwood was that it was neglected i.e. the roads were potholed and the hedges were overgrown and not cared for. I had booked a holiday but didn't expect to share it with 2 big black spiders running around in the bed when I moved the quilt. There were also many woodlice scampering on the kitchen work surfaces and up the walls. The 'patio' was overgrown with stinging nettles. I stayed one night and then moved to a hotel. I definitely could not recommend this for a holiday (unless you want to share it with the local insect population!).
Dear Barbara We were aware that you had left earlier than anticipated and we are sorry for the issues which lead to your making a decision to find accommodation elsewhere. Please be assured that this situation is extremely unusual and that the cabin you were allocated had been thoroughly cleaned and prepared by our house- keeping team. We can only presume that the combination of our rural wooded location, and the time of year (spiders tend to head inside our homes in Autumn) caused this insect problem during your brief stay. As for your comment about the outside space and the roads, we would respond that we pride ourselves on managing the environment for the benefit of the wildlife as well as our guests. Whilst we do not claim to have formal garden areas, we are often able to carry out a little extra pruning should a guest request this. As for our roads, they may not be especially smooth but they are perfectly serviceable, fit with the rustic appearance of our park, and encourage slow speeds for everyone's safety.Given the opportunity, we would have sought a suitable solution for you, but you had made a decision to leave. We are saddened that you were disappointed by your stay, but thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

We have been coming to Churchwood Valley for nearly 40 years on and off. It’s charms are mainly its location in a wooded valley with a mill stream running down to a sandy beach with rock pools galore and wonderful coastal walks.Great for kids, horse riding available! Or for us older folk, just stay in the chalet with binoculars and a good book! Staff are very friendly and chalets, although not luxurious, have everything you need.Good value for money compared to other self catering accommodation. There is plenty to visit locally particularly Plymouth with its aquarium and historic docks plus the newly landscaped shopping centre. Saltram House National Trust property is well worth a visit. Plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants, would especially recommend’Rose and Crown’ in Yealmpton which is dog friendly has a varied and delicious menu.

Stayed for 4 nights. Very clean, comfy beds, comfy sofa, excellent shower. Very reasonably priced, lots of lodges amongst the wooded valley but non overlooking any others, no sound from any others. Had a hedgehog visit, squirrel, Robins on the bird table Very tame. Can't wait to go back.

All vey good, cabin was nice. Sadly access to the sight was poor. and access on the sight even poorer. IF you have a small car you will love it.

The noisiest thing about Churchwood are the birds! This is not a site for people looking for lots of onsite activities and that’s exactly why we chose it. The layout of the site gives a feeling of seclusion and peace, yet it’s also a great base to go off exploring. My granddaughter loved the rock pools down at Wembury Beach and you can jump in the car to explore the busier beaches along the coast if that’s what you’re looking for. I have a feeling that we’ll be back again next year!

If you want a quote, relaxing holiday this is the place for you. The well equipped, cozy cabins are beautifully maintained, totally private, not overlooked and all have a view. The staff and owners are friendly and always on hand for any emergency or need. The beach is a short walk away and with private parking, but not suitable for very disabled but manageable for most. An added attraction for us, in close proximity to the beach is the convenience of a lovely café; ice cream shop and toilets. Further afield is Plymouth with its interesting history, coastal walks and NT properties to visit and Dartmoor just around the corner. As a family, we have been coming for approximately 20 years and by the end of this year the fourth generation Will be getting ready for his first experience of Churchwood Valley.

The cabin was clean, tidy, and well equipped. Lovely to be surrounded by nature and a nice picnic area outside to enjoy your meals. Short walk to the beach! Loved seeing the squirrels, horses, and birds up close. Our dog enjoyed his little pup break! Definitely recommend!
