Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
Chestnut Lodge is a 3-bedroom luxury lodge in a fabulous setting between High Road and Middle Road, giving spectacular views of the sea all year round! Very spacious, Oak Lodge sleeps six in one double and two twin bedrooms. Bathroom, plus master en-suite. There is a spacious open plan living area, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Patio doors and two garden areas ensure great views of wildlife as well as the surrounding scenery.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

I have been visiting Churchwood Valley since I was a child and it’s as enjoyable now as it ever was. I stayed in Chestnut Lodge with my Springer Puppy and we had a wonderfully peaceful week with fantastic views out to sea and the church. Very spacious with all mod cons and a large patio with 2 gardens. Everyone who works at Churchwood Valley is exceptional and after my many visits like old friends to me. Can’t wait to go back again next year.

We love Churchwood Valley it allows us to immerse ourselves in nature and enjoy the beautiful South Devon coast path. It is our home from home beside the sea. The team there are friendly very helpful and make guests feel very welcome. We love the site shop which is great for staples and even has some great meal options to cook in your cabin.

Excellent location in the woodland area close to the beach so there is always something to see and do for all ages. The lodge had everything we could possibly need and we could park outside too. Staff are unfailingly helpful and considerate. We felt calm and revitalised after this holiday in an area I know well. Ideal for a family holiday celebrating two special occasions.

Where do I start? Can I not give more than 5*?! This place is a total mind rest. As soon as you arrive, you get out of the car and the silence is deafening. The views are beyond stunning. You wake up to the sound of birds & it’s so picturesque. The staff make you feel as if you’re arriving at their home, friendly and welcoming. Our accommodation: we stopped in Chestnut Lodge. Our 4th time in this Lodge and it’s beyond perfect. Totally dog friendly, the patio area is fenced and gated so your dogs are very secure. It’s high up so the views are amazing. You immediately feel calm and relaxed. The inside is huge. A beautiful kitchen (very easy to cook in), comfortable beds too. Leave the cabin and it’s a short walk towards the beach. The first part of the walk is a cool path c

I've stayed at Churchwood Valley many times over the years, in a few different cabins. Its a truly amazing and peaceful place to stay. With the beach, coastal footpath and riding stables just a few minutes walk away its ideal. The accommodation cannot be bettered with its well equipped kitchen, spacious living area, and beds with comfortable mattresses. Add the beautiful surroundings and the pleasant, helpful staff its a holiday I would recommend to anyone. I'm already looking forward to booking for next year.
