"Peaceful setting and big space"

We spent two days at Strawfields in one if their Shepard’s huts and everything was well thought out by the owners. Everything is well set out and clean but the responsibility of leaving the place as clean and ordered As you found it is up to you when you leave. This is picturesque natural camping with large open star filled skies and lots of wood smoke. In warmer months it would be totally blissful. We went in mid October and had a lovely time but a great deal of your time is spent keeping warm and making fires for hot food. If you like the outdoor life with a lovely old world ascetic this is your place. Young kids will think its a magical place and love the animals roaming in surrounding fields.

It was so beautiful waking up the next morning & seeing the stunning surroundings! Our bacon & egg breakfast cooked on the open fire was delicious. We weren’t that lucky with the weather but were still able to get to nearby Woolacombe where we managed a quick spot of bodyboarding! Getting back and lighting the fire in the hut was bliss! It’s a great place we’ll definitely be back :)

"OK but not the best glamping experience we've had"

We often glamp on the way to and from Cornwall so have a lot of experience in various types of glamping in Devon. To be honest, Strawfield's wasn't the best we have stayed at. The accommodation was satisfactory but it was geared more towards campers than glampers. The other glamping sites we have stayed at have had a kitchen facility for the glampers - equipped with everything e.g. knives, fridge etc. Helps with picnics and also with food for an evening. I don't see why there is a freezer and not a fridge. The other thing is that it feels very rule orientated. I'm a lawyer and I understand limiting your liability but there are ways of doing it. Previous glamping sites have hired out the pizza oven for £10 for the night and you make your own pizza and decorate. Pizza night was fun but very controlled with everything practically being done for you - it takes away from the fun I think. The other thing is that whilst we knew we'd need to take the kids bedding with us, I don't see why its not provided. A single duvet would cost next to nothing and just create a more luxurious glamping feel. I have and would recommend it for location and the fact its easy to book - but if we went again we would camp rather than glamp I think.

Alex is friendly, helpful and will tend to any needs we have. The shepherd's huts are comfortable and adorable. The area feels like your own despite others staying nearby. Peaceful and eco friendly clean and tidy. Hot showers and plenty of easy parking. Fire pits outside and also log fire inside hut made us feel cozy and romantic. Wish we could have more time to do nothing but admire the sunsets and soak up the stress free and tranquil surrounding areas. Alex offers other attractions from the house such as charging points and special nights of fun. Love it loads

"Love this place"

Mrs L Littlejohns - Stayed with friends, May 2019

Strawfields is a great " glamping " oasis without the hefty price tag. It is pretty rustic but the Shepherd Huts have comfy beds and are very cosy. The covered area outdoors is a great shelter from the rain and fire pits are great.
