Howe of Torbeg is a small campsite in the heart of Royal Deeside & the Cairngorms National Park. Small is beautiful - set in just 1 acre of land, surrounded by open farmland & Birch woodland with birdsong & the sounds of the river to wake up to. We offer tranquil camping in style. Perfectly located in the Eastern Cairngorms countryside, yet only 5 miles from the picturesque village of Ballater with its independent shops, restaurants & cafes. A fantastic base for your holiday.
Our Shepherd's Hut, Juniper, can sleep 2 adults in a bespoke-built platform raised Double bed with sprung mattress, and up to 2 children up to the age of 15 on Jay-Be fold away camp beds. With its classic split opening stable door you can make the most of the views even when you don't feel like getting out of bed!
The Hut is completely off-grid, for the full unplugged experience. Really switch off and get some downtime. Super insulated, with a small but perfectly formed Hobbit wood burning stove; once the fire's going it's toasty warm! The Hut also has excellent solar lighting.
Get a great night's sleep in a comfy raised double with pocket sprung mattress. Children have a cosy glamping adventure sleeping on fold out camp beds. Travel cot available for tiny toots, dependant on availability. All bedding, linen & blankets, & towels are provided.
The Hut is fully lockable and secure.
Juniper has a small elevated outside seating area with wooden rocking chairs & stunning views over the valley, with a Kadai cast iron fire pit with a griddle for cooking on. Logs, kindling, flamers & charcoal are available to buy on site.
The Wash House is our fully heated shower block, with 2 self-contained large, clean & modern shower rooms, each with low flush loo and sink. Our showers are gas powered, providing you with lots of lovely hot water on demand 24/7. Two covered outside sinks are available for washing up, also with free hot water. And our drinking water is pure, UV filtered, Scottish Spring water from half a mile away up the hill - it doesn't get fresher than that!
Our Snug offers a small communal space with a wood burning stove and oven, and a selection of books & games. Our shared Tea Shack has a small gas stove & kettles for making hot drinks.
We have camping crockery packs, BBQ utensils, and other useful bits available to borrow on site, as well as a wee shop selling firewood, charcoal and some other bits & pieces.
Completely unplug - there is no Wi-Fi at Howe of Torbeg.
