Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
Oak Lodge is a 3-bedroom luxury lodge in a fabulous setting between High Road and Middle Road, giving spectacular views of the sea all year round! Very spacious, Oak Lodge sleeps six in one double and two twin bedrooms. Bathroom, plus master en-suite. There is a spacious open plan living area, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Patio doors and two garden areas ensure great views of wildlife as well as the surrounding scenery.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

We love coming to Churchwood Valley and although it is perfect for us some of the cabins may be a challenge if you have limited mobility. It’s in a perfect woodland setting, peaceful and full of wildlife and less than 10 minutes walk to the beach with rock pools, the Wembury Marine Centre and a cafe. It’s safe to bring canoes, paddle boards or just to swim. A 20 minute walk uphill takes you to the closest pub and you can drive there in 5 minutes. The staff are super friendly and helpful and try very hard to help when you need their help and advice. The site has a laundry and shop for all your essentials including a small area with pocket money price treats for the children. It’s not far to the village shop and supermarkets are only a short drive away. It is a perfect destination if you aren’t looking for on-site entertainment, just peace and a chance to get back to nature and is great for walking the South West coast path too.

Everything is first class at Churchwood. The cabins the site and the staff. I go every year. Now taking my grandchildren who love it. A place to relax and enjoy

I first came to Churchwood Valley when I was 6 and I’m now 59. I’ve been coming with my own family every year since 2006 and, even though my 3 children are now between 21 and 30, we all still love coming. We even have partners coming along now and in-laws who book the cabin next door. It’s more than just a holiday location to us, it’s like a second home. Comfortable cabins in a gorgeous natural setting and a short walk to the beach. The Odd Wheel pub in Wembury village serves great food and the Old Mill Cafe on the beach serves great coffee and snacks. This is a place to truly relax, unwind and leave the noise of the world behind you.

Churchwood is a lovely place, surrounded by nature. Not far from the beach and coast walks. Very clean and comfortable cabin. Well-equipped. Friendly Reception and shop staff. The Odd Wheel, nearby, is a good pub with good food. The cafe on the beach is good, but waiting times can be quite long. The Eddystone Inn is not open all week, so check before walking there. There is recycling onsite. The bin did not mention cardboard, but I and others put it in anyway. I saw online after leaving, that it says plastic continers can be recycled, but as the bin only mentioned plastic bottles, I threw my other plastic containers in the general waste. Wish I had asked now...We will definitely return!

Churchwood is an amazing place to take a young family on holiday. We stayed in Oak Lodge which was immaculate and has all the facilities you need for a laid back stress free holiday. We loved that you could just walk to the beautiful clean Wembury beach in 5 minutes! Our grand children (5 and 7) loved visiting the Churchwood shop and information/play room and made friends with the free range chicken (and Tom) who were often about. Churchwood has a feeling of been at one with nature with butterflies and birds constantly around when you sit out on the wooden deck admiring the view out to the chuch and sea beyond. A truely magical place.Tom and his team have got it just right and I can't think of anything I would change. We will be back!!!
Thank you so much for this 5 star review and all your lovely comments- we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay.
