Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
The pine Lodge is a 2-bedroom lodge that provides a compact and stylishly comfortable accommodation! Beautifully designed, Pine Lodges sleep four guests in one double and one twin bedroom. There is a spacious open plan living area, a fully equipped kitchen with oven, fridge and microwave. Patio doors leading to a private patio area ensure great views of wildlife as well as the surrounding scenery.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

We have been several times over probably 20 years. It’s always a pleasure to return. We had a couple of really enjoyable evenings out.. Plymouth The Musselinn. Easy to walk along the SWP. Always super friendly!! Amazing information room

Everything was very clean and just as described. We had stayed with friends the year before and shared a large lodge. None were available on the dates we wanted and the staff made every effort to get us a lodge next to our friends. Would highly recommend the site as friendly and great for dogs and wildlife.

Had a really lovely time, lodge larger than expected. My daughter loved heating the owls and watching squirrels. Perfect location and we would definitely return.

We have been coming to Churchwood for years. It's a place where my family and I truly get away from it all, reset and recharge ourselves. We stayed in a pine lodge which was very comfortable, the sofas were excellent, and everything was spotless. The only thing I would add is that a smart TV would be a much appreciated upgrade.

Clean basic accommodation, very helpful employees, peaceful, quiet and no phone signal! WIFI is available but can be intermittent. If you want 5*amenities and luxury this is not for you but if you are seeking somewhere away from it all this is perfect.Dartmoor and Cornwall are on the doorstep, lots of local dog friendly beaches and easy access to South West Coast Path. Hubby said to add good for fishing too.

We always stay here when visiting our family. It is peaceful and yet near to all the Plymouth activities such as the Barbican, Hoes, Aquarium and loads of restaurants. It’s a short walk to the beach to watch the surfers and paddle boarders and have a coffee in the cafe and the Marine Centre which has family activities and a great exhibition of the marine life. You can go on a guided dive and see the sea life up close. Great for rock pooling too.Camp staff are lovely and there is an information room with games for kids to play and lots of books and puzzles you can borrow. You can find out about walks in the area. You can walk Westwards on the coastal path and get to the Eddistone Inn for coffee or lunch (1.5 miles) Or park at Wembury point and it’s only a 10 min walk. In the evening you can eat at the Mussel Inn or Odd Wheel but it’s advisable to book. The chalets have lovely gardens for al fresco dining. They now have EV charging. It’s just a fabulous get away

Churchwood is my idea of heaven on earth. It’s tranquil, you’re steeped in nature, going to sleep to the sounds of owls calling and waking up to songbirds. If you are looking for an escape from the noise of everyday life especially if you’re from a city then there really is no better place in my opinion. I’ve been going to Churchwood on and off since I was a child and in the best way possible it’s like a wonderful time capsule. All the best things about it are still the same but with all the modern comforts of home. My husband and I both remarked that we could happily live in one of the cabins as a family home. A short walk from beautiful wembury beach it really does have everything (cannot recommend enough going down to the beach at sunset it’s truly beautiful) the staff are welcoming and everyone you meet is just lovely. Our daughter is two and she loved every moment, she loved the cabin and having the animals on the doorstep. Can’t wait to return.

A magical and ‘almost’ secret spot gently nestling in a wooded valley. We stayed right at then end of the holidays, next day was back to school, squeezing fun out right to the end.A wood cabin with everything you need and nothing else. Basic. But good. The great thing is there is no EE phone signal so I had to switch off. There is TV and Wi-Fi but why, when you can sit on your own patio and watch the sun sink below the horizon. And now the best bit! 5 minute walk to one of the best snorkelling spots in a very safe bay at Wembury. Our party was 11, 14 and 57! We spent most of our time on the beach or snorkelling the shallow reefs. If you like simplicity and purity, where making memories for children is a precious gift then this is for you.Lastly, the staff were bloody brilliant. Thank you.

As always a great holiday. I have been going to Churchwood since I was a child. I am now retired. The only down side to our last holiday was the bathroom. The bath was a half seat /half what ever with a shower over it. Sorry I don’t what you would call it. My husband tried to have a shower and at 6ft 2ins he was too tall to get in. He gave up. This did not stop us enjoying our stay. See you again in October.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us some feedback about your recent stay. Yes, some of our Pine Lodges have hip bath showers, and this obviously didn't suit you. But a few of them do have a conventional walk in shower and so if you'd like to book this style of cabin again, please let us know that this is what you would prefer and we will do our very best to allocate something suitable. Look forward to seeing you again very soon, and thanks again.
