Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This larger A6+ cabin can sleep six and has a double bed in the main bedroom, twin beds in the second bedroom and a double bed settee in the lounge. The bathroom has a full size bath and shower over. The fully equipped kitchen includes a washing machine and dishwasher. In the open plan living area, a TV with DVD player is provided for added entertainment. Sliding patio doors open onto a paved patio.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.

If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

Have just returned from a lovely two week break. It’s the first time I have visited. The roads in the immediate vicinity are steep and single track but well worth negotiating to get to the cabins in the woods. Once there I barely moved my car for two weeks as it was lovely just walking down the valley to the coast path. I enjoyed using the Mill cafe at the beach and walked to the local pubs along the coast path/ lanes for lunches, walked 7/8 miles everyday. All served excellent food. The cabin itself was warm and cosy and clean and tidy on arrival. Everything you needed was there. They are positioned so they are private and you just look out to the trees….very relaxing. The on-site shop was really useful for daily top ups. Everyone I met were very friendly, including staff and fellow guests. Would definitely go there again.😃

The cabins are beautifully placed amongst trees and nature, very peaceful and a short walk from the sea. We found the facilities very good and the staff friendly and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well planned with everything we needed. There is a lovely little café by the beach and beautiful walks along the coast.

We have been coming to Churchwood Valley irregularly over the past 27 years . Always a good welcome at Reception. The cabins are clean and cosy, with modern utilities. I love having just the right number of things, so the washing up is never overwhelming. The beds are comfy with very efficient duvets. A lovely feeling of being in the trees! Last year we watched an owl on a branch not far away. The bird table is a great attraction for songbirds and squirrels! Good to be able to buy seeds and nuts at the shop on site. As we get less mobile, we appreciate the road access to the beach, and the great cafe in the Mill house. Very much appreciate being so near Plymouth, to visit Mount Batten and the People's Cafe there, plus the Marine Aquarium. We had an excellent meal at the Mussel Inn in Down Thomas (dog friendly). Overall Churchwood Valley provides us with a chance to breathe and to slow down. Very good value for money. Thank you to all the staff who curate the site.

Only a short stay for a couple of nights but lovely to return 20 years after my first visit. The secluded chalets tucked into the woodlands give a sense of privacy during your stay whilst the location offers the opportunity for instant walks in nature and along the coast. Small shop onsite had the basics and the owners are very approachable and friendly. The site and accomodation were clean and all in good order - overall, excellent value for our brief stay. The only advice is that all of our cabins either featured steep steps or slopes to access. Not an issue for our party (we had 3 chalets together) but would strongly recommend you check any access requirements when booking.

Pleasant stay was had by all. It was great to have breakfast outdoors with the birds and squirrels.

Our August visit to Churchwood is now an annual tradition with the Grandchildren - they love it! As ever it was peaceful, the cabin was clean and tidy with all necessary amenities provided. Great value for money! The staff are always friendly and helpful, with the shop providing essentials when needed. The beach in walking distance is a huge bonus too. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends. We will be back next year, if not before.

Nothing seems to be to much trouble. We tend to stay in the same chalet every visit as it suits us but have had problems with the siting of the tv as it gives us an uncomfortable neck. We mentioned this upon departing in May and when we returned in July they had moved it down so it was not some uncomfortable. Thank you! Very friendly in fact it's like meeting distant family members which, each time we visit, become closer family! So again thank you.

Friendly staff. Very clean cabin. Nearby pubs ok but expensive. Limited choice on menus, especially if vegetarian.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. Whilst the cabins are basic they are always clean and good value for.money. The site is really convenient for access to Wembley beach and the coast path and it is only a short drive into Plymouth. It is also a good base for ventures to Dartmoor and surrounding areas.
