Churchwood Valley is a beautiful, natural wooded valley running down to the sea at Wembury Bay in South Devon, near Plymouth. Look closely and, hidden among the lush green foliage, you’ll see wooden cabins nestling on the hillside.
Each holiday cabin has its own plot on the hillside, surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, hedges and rustic fences. All our cabins have views across the valley, with some looking out over the water meadow or towards the sea.
There’s a car parking space near each cabin and private roads and paths give access to the beach, an unspoiled stretch of rock pools and shingle with sand at low tide. Adjoining National Trust land, the beach is no more than a 10-minute stroll away from any of the cabins.
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome in each cabin for a small charge, there are dog exercise areas on site and plenty of space for canine roaming locally.
This compact cabin is great for two people and comes with a double bedroom and shower cubicle.
The cabin also comes with a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances, an under-counter fridge and microwave, and a TV with DVD player. Located in the centre of the site, this A2 cabin has a peaceful and private patio and is frequently visited by wildlife on the park.
A haven of peace within an environmental paradise, Churchwood Valley is a few minutes’ walk from a safe family beach and the South West Coast Path.
If ‘getting away from it all’ is the most important part of your holiday – Churchwood Valley is for you. Each holiday cabin is nestled within the woodland. By moving no further than your armchair, you’ll see delightful displays of birdlife, and a trip to your private patio may well afford a glimpse of badgers, foxes, squirrels, and other wildlife.
There are no discos, bars, or cafes – just rock pools, wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Secluded it may be, isolated it is not. Churchwood’s licensed shop sells a wide range of food and drink, beach toys, gifts, and many other products, so you don’t even need to leave the site for those ‘essential’ items. We also have a fully equipped launderette. If you feel the need for a more extensive shop, or have a taste for the bright lights, the city of Plymouth is just a 20 minute drive away.

It was neat, clean, and wonderfully quiet, but also very basic. Difficult to reach, and the parking space at the cottage was too cramped for our car. It was also disappointing that there was only 1 (half) roll of toilet paper available. Overall not bad, but less than we had expected.

We had such an amazing and serene time. The cabin was comfortable and exactly as described, the location was remote but still close enough to Plymouth and surrounding areas so we could explore. With how close it was to the beach, it was a no brainer to be down there most of the time. Every member of staff we encountered were lovely and friendly and it was an amazing experience! Such a perfect hidden gem, beautiful for star gazing and a little get away! We'll definitely be back!!

The location is beautiful and very secluded, you can hear people in other cabins but it's generally very private. The area is quiet as well; although Wembury Beach has a NT car park it never seemed too busy locally. The cabins were solidly made of wood and generally comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. There's a generous terrace and outside sitting area and parking is close to your cabin. There are good walks right from the doorway but otherwise you are very dependent on the car for eating shopping etc although there is a little shop for essentials. The area is very steep as other people have said so everywhere is up or down a hill. They offer good recycling facilities. The shower was very small with low water pressure. We would have liked a non stick frying pan as all our breakfasts stuck to the pan!Could have done with some hooks in the bathroom and bedroom, and some shelves to put things on in the living area.

This is exactly the place I was looking for. It’s the perfect place to relax and recharge when you need to hit the reset button after the busy everyday rush.

We had a very warm and friendly welcome. All staff were extremely helpful and ensured details for individual needs were taken into consideration. The lodge was comfortable, clean and was well equipped. The surrounding area is delightful, and we were blessed with fantastic weather. It’s an ideal place for those who enjoy the outdoors and walks of varying degrees. The lodge is also comfortable to curl up and read a book in tge quiet peaceful surroundings. Within 10 minutes drive is a dog friendly beach and walks on the doorstep.

Very hard to get in the valley, the staff is very friendly. Our small 2 persons cabin was on top of Middle road, lots of privacy but very dark and damp inside eventhough it had not rained in weeks! It was even chilly inside while it was about 27 degrees outside. Clothes and towels were still damp at the end of the sunny day. Inside you can hardly put your clothes, bags and toiletries anywhere, The bed is narrow and short. The beach is a nice steep walk over the tiny road, but the sea is hard to reach with all the rocks. The cafe sells nice coffee and tea with some pastries and icecream, but it closes at 5 pm the latest, even on a very sunny midsummer day when people arrive after 5.A steep walk towards the odd wheel pub is worth is, for everything else you need your car on the difficult roads. The views at the cliff walk are beautiful. We left earlier because the darkness and the dampness made us feel depressed. So go there if you like to be in the dark in a wood .

Half of me doesn't want to leave a good review because I feel like it's a beautiful secret I want to keep to myself and I don't want it to become so popular, loud and overrun that there won't be space for me in the future, but I just can't fault this place. It's my 'go to' place whenever I need a bit of peace and tranquility (hence not wanting to reveal my secret 😁) the cabins are lovely and well equipped, it's so close to the beach, there's so much wildlife, the staff are lovely, it's just amazing. Dogs are not allowed on the main national trust beach but you can walk 5 minutes up the coast path to dog friendly beaches. The sea is so clear. I would hate it if the site got taken over by the partying families, blasting music out of their cabins, getting drunk and loud etc, that's why I'm hesitant to let people know of it's existence 🤣🤣 Stay just as you are Churchwood Valley, you're perfect. ❤️

We had a lovely stay at Churchwood. I grew up a few miles away and it was a great base for us to visit family and friends. The cabin had everything that we needed and was very private, no rows of mobile homes here! You felt as if you had your own little part of the valley, surrounded by trees. We enjoyed walking down to the beach although there was a steep climb back up. Next time we might see if we can book a cabin nearer the bottom! A big thank you to everyone at Churchwood.

I first went Churchwood in 1970, I've lost count how many times I'm been. I've travelled all over the world but Churchwood continues to draw me back. It's a very special place with very special memories. If you like nature & tranquillity, this is the place to be.
