Description

Set in an elevated position in a scenic area just outside Keswick, Castlerigg Hall enjoys exceptional panoramic views of Derwentwater & Bassenthwaite Lake set against a dramatic backdrop of the surrounding fells.

Be different – be one of the first at Castlerigg to stay in a Pod! What is it?

Well, its a small timber hut with a wraparound roof, all very well insulated with sheep’s wool in the walls, and with a special foil layer under the tiles to help keep summer temperatures in check. There’s good head height and plenty of light from the double-glazed lockable french doors which, together with a small high rear window, provide a good through draft. Also provided is a electric socket, lighting and a Heater. All in all, it’s a brilliant substitute for a tent!

"The Pods are great"

Mr Moore - Stayed with family, Aug 2017

The Pods are great, nice an spacey with a heater and electricity. Plus very nice views over Derwent Water. However, you need some form of shelter to cook outside pod if it rains/wind.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome, even our dog! We'd booked in for two nights in a pod and as soon as we saw the facilities and the view we already wished we'd booked for longer! The shower and toilet block were brilliant and super clean, the pod was perfect, the view from our pod was breath taking. The service in the onsite restaurant was fantastic and the food was lovely. The lady in the shop was also super friendly and really helpful too! Thank you to each and every staff member who work hard to keep these facilities in perfect condition. We can't wait to return next year!

"Pod Camping"

The Pods were in a good location in the site. OurPod was just a shell but warm and soundproof inside. We would have liked to have stayed in the larger castle pod that had more facilities inside but these were booked up. I would ask the site owners to build more castle pods as having a car full of sleeping equipment was the only downside. The wash facilities are newly built next to the pods and offer fantastic clean hotel style facilities. The shop was well stocked and the lady on the till was very friendly. The restaurant for morning breakfast served sausage sarnies that definitely hit the spot. The view is spectacular and added to that being so close to keswick the camp site is in great location. Would fully recommend to friends and will be back again to stay in a castle pod next time.

Pods are basic but ideal for us as we are out walking all day and it's just some where warm to put our heads down at night. We love the site and the location 99% of people who go respect the location and other people. However on our stay we had two days spoilt and two Mothers arrived in two tents just behind our pod and they just let there children go berserk - constant shouting screaming and running amok. Snapping branches off trees, running over peoples decking, throwing stones - the list is endless. These people don't deserve or respect the beauty and tranquillity of the lake district and should have been removed within hours of arriving. Parents need to be responsible for their children's behaviour and if not then they should be asked to leave. Apart from two very stressful days these people stayed -we had a very enjoyable stay. This is a beautiful site, very well kept and lovely staff - but need to be more strict people

We enjoyed our first experience of "Glamping" in one of the family pods- as it was such a wet week in Keswick it was great to enjoy the benefit of a warm heated pod with electricity and light. We had a short walk in the rain to the impressive toilet and shower block- always clean and nicely fitted out. It was great to use the campers kitchen which had all the basic equipment and we spent rainy afternoons relaxing on the sofas playing some of the board games which were provided. When the weather cleared, we had a lovely view from our deck and from the playing area where we enjoyed frisbee purchased from the well stocked shop-lovely helpful staff too so I would highly recommend a stay at Castlerigg Hall!

All again good, staff friendly, grounds feel safe, shower facilities great. It is good to have a curfew at a respectful time of 10.30, as we have stayed at sites where there is no curfew and parties go on all night.... Will return again i am sure next year.
