Situated in the heart of Wasdale, arguably Cumbria’s most majestic valley, Church Stile Holiday Park and Campsite offers visitors the most spectacular location from which to explore and enjoy the Lake District.

Nestling in an idyllic oak woodland setting on a traditional Lakeland sheep farm, the area is a haven for wildlife with stunning views to the mountains. Yet the pretty village of Nether Wasdale with its 2 wonderful country inns serving hearty meals and fine ales, is only a two minute stroll away.

Whether you wish to simply enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this unspoilt valley or take advantage of the many opportunities for walking, climbing, cycling and kayaking or visit some of West Cumbria’s many attractions, Church Stile is your perfect location.

Things To Do while glamping in Wasdale in the Lake District

Wasdale is one of the big mountain valleys of the Lake District with the stunning scenery making a wonderful backdrop for your glamping holiday. The valley is home to England’s highest mountain (Scafell Pike), deepest lake (Wastwater) and smallest church (St Olaf’s). Church Stile lies at the heart of the valley in the pretty village of Nether Wasdale making it the ideal base for your holiday.

Wasdale offers wonderful walks both on the high fells and valley bottom. Wasdale head is nearby leading to Scafell Pike (977 m) and Great Gable (899 m) while others such as Yewbarrow and Kirk Fell are also easily reached.

Lying just 1 mile from Church Stile, Wastwater Lake, England’s deepest lake allows kayaks, canoes and rowing boats. There are numerous places to picnic or swim. The view across the lake was voted ‘Britain’s Best View’ in 2009.

"Shepherd hut"

Woodhead - Stayed with family, Aug 2017

The bed in the shepherd hut needs redesigning to make wider which could then be used the other way round with the head opposite the door making a bed that is long enough for an average man to sleep comfortably. As it is now the bed is to short.

More than big enough for 2 people and well equipped with bedding and electric kettle. Also a stove that we didn't use as it was quite worm in the hut. Pubs / Inns at the entrance to the campsite are great for a drink, micro brewery, and some dinner, need to book for a Saturday / Sunday. I would also recommend the walk to Wast Water, about 1.5 miles, as the scenery is lovely.

"Lovely camp site, enjoyed glamping!"

Dr. Dragas - Stayed with partner, Jul 2017

As close to the nature in Lake District as possible. Well managed, with well-behaved guests and child-friendly, fantastic breakfast sarnie to fuel your day's hiking, cannot really fault anything!

"An amazing, remote, beautiful campsite on the doorstep of the best the Lakes has to offer."

Mr Wright - Stayed with partner, May 2017

3 nights in a shepherds hut in all kinds of weather left a lasting impression. That is to say, it's a great place to stay in an idyllic setting surrounded by the best the Lakes has to offer. Wast Water a gentle jog/walk away and Scafell Pike only a little further.... 3 nights in a shepherds hut in all kinds of weather left a lasting impression. Amazing pubs with great food (book in advance!) literally 2 mins away mean we'll be back. Staff very friendly!

I've worked round this area for the last 7 years or so and done a lot of walking and drinking here and around the local area. The strands beer festival last year was our first stay on the camp site and we hired one of the shepherds hut and it was fantastic log burner double bed in side bbq/fire pit and deck chairs outside I thought it couldn't get any better. But this year it was better as it was connected up to the electric which made boiling the kettle a lot quicker...lol Definitely be back next year and the foreseeable future

Other walks and areas are not too far away either. The toilets/shower block were very clean and the farmshop was a wonderful new addition to the site. Had a good chat with the staff who are always there to assist you if you need anything. Best site i have been on!!

I stayed in a shepherds hut with a friend for 4 nights, hut was beautifully presented and very cosy with a log burner. Campsite was quiet and peaceful and set within a lovely location with stunning views. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Having a little farm shop on site was a lovely touch...for all those forgotten bits, as well as fresh meats for BBQ. Couple of lovely pubs across the road from campsite, also found the staff very welcoming and friendly. Busy pub, would advise to book table, as we were lucky to get a table as a walk in. Our stay was mainly for walking up Scarfell Pike, for which the location of the campsite is perfect. The campsite is a bit of a distance away from some of the main attractions/lakes but got to see some stunning scenery along the way which made up for the distance travelled. We wouldn't hesitate to book again when we return to Lakes.
