Otterington Park is a lovely rural site with its own fishing lake and nature walks. Perfect for family glamping in York, we are situated in the Vale of York and our family owned and managed park is an ideal base for visiting the moors and glamping in the Yorkshire Dales.

These family glamping pods at Otterington Park sleep up to 5 people - (2 adults and 3 children under 12 years of age or 4 adults). There is a raised area of timber decking extending the ‘living area’ and providing somewhere to sun-bathe, prepare food or when the weather is bad, lose the wet gear before going inside.

The glamping pod is designed to be comfortable – the roofing material is designed to cut down the noise of heavy rain. The window and lockable French doors are double glazed to reduce condensation and provide sound insulation. The wood used in the construction is a naturally ‘warm’ material but to provide extra winter warmth we have installed sheep’s wool insulation inside the walls while a special foil layer under the roof helps keep summer temperatures in check.

We suggest you bring your own sleeping bags and pillows, together with a blanket to put under your sleeping bag for extra insulation.

Yorkshire has a wealth of attractions, from outstanding natural beauty to the grandeur of England’s finest stately homes. Otterington Park is well situated to enjoy them all. Within 30 minutes’ drive are the National Parks of the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors, making this Vale of York glamping location ideal for exploring the Yorkshire countryside and beyond!

For an exciting day out with the children the theme parks of Lightwater Valley and Flamingo Land are close by. And don’t forget Mother Shiptons Cave at Knaresborough or the visitor centre at the top of Sutton bank.

For the sporting enthusiasts there is horse racing at both Ripon and Thirsk as well as Catterick, Wetherby, York and Sedgefield. For the fishermen, apart from our own private fishing lake there are several lakes and some river fishing spots available locally. Lovely local golf courses are on the doorstep at Thirsk, Romanby, Bedale and Ripon. Cycling is very popular in the area with the 2014 Tour de France passing very close by and this year the Tour de Yorkshire. Walking is as popular as ever, whether a stroll close by or a visit to the Moors or Dales.

We were looking for a last minute break in North Yorkshire and found this site. Stayed in one of the spotlessly clean glamping pods which was big enough for four adults and a dog to stay in and had a wooden picnic table for eating outside. Very close to tap and shop/toilet block so no long hikes for the loo. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come back for a longer visit next time, staff friendly and helpful.

N Beaton - Stayed with friends, May 2019

The pod was clean and comfortable. The washing facilities at the sight were clean, warm and private. to improve the pods it would be god if beds were fixed in position (i have stayed in one before that had this).

Staff very friendly and offered us 2 extra camp beds at no extra charge to borrow for the night. As no one was in our pod the night before we were able to check in early. The only little niggle was the dew on the grass which was quite long in front of the pods and longer around the picnic bench made our shoes wet. We’ll need wellies next time. Maybe a stony path from the main path to the pod would help to avoid wet shoes x

Our camping pod was large and plenty of room for the 4 of us and the dog! It was warm all night which was a lovely change to freezing in a tent! Only downaside was that we were not allowed to erect the gazebo. We brought it tho king we could pop this up over the picnic table in case it rains so we could still sit outside and eat/drink/play games etc but they are not allowed according to the park rules. Would have made the site perfect otherwise there is nowhere to go when raining apart from inside 😢
