"New year break"

Mrs R Dale - Stayed with family, Jan 2019

Fantastic log cabin and hot tub. Cabin was clean and tidy upon arrival. Really enjoyed how peaceful the site is. Ventured off site once to go to one of the local pubs which are really easy to get to. Our children enjoyed the play area.

No WiFi and if you decide to pay for it it doesn’t work so cut off from outside world. Nothing on site to do for adults or kids. Hot tub didn’t get above 35 degrees Cabins need a good clean as they look old tired and shabby. We reported things to reception but nothing was fixed or seen to. We went over NY and the reception shut for half our stay. Nothing in vicinity and nearest pub or shop is over 1.5 miles walk away so had to drive everywhere. Facilities on site are non existent and kids were bored stupid. Problems with a cabin next to ours who were swearing and shouting and carrying on until 3am and nothing done be on site security. Again reported it to reception and they didn’t seem bothered. TV too small. Oven unclean. Table had stains on it. Hot tub wasn’t clean. For £200 a night it w as over priced and under delivered.

The road on the site is horrendous my suspension had a real workout. Pole holes were like craters. Park facilities this includes use of hottub which was great. Nothing else there just a walk around really and the reception had small shop but very expensive. Breakages... The road on the site is horrendous my suspension had a real workout. Breakages need to be paid for and they are sooo expensive. My lad knocked a glass over on a table that fell on the table and broke so easily but i had to pay 2.50. Didnt see security the only thing was the barrier to get in and out with car. I had to pay a refundable deposit of 10 pound to recieve the remotes for television and dvd player. Nice getaway but expensive especially when check in at 4pm and check out at 10pm looses most of day

My partner, myself and our little girl recently stayed at Quarry Walk Lodges with a couple of our friends and their young son. We wanted a relaxing getaway with a hot tub and lots to do nearby. When I found Quarry Walk online I was so impressed with how affordable it was compared to other similar sites. When we got there though it quickly became apparent why it costs so much less than other similar sites. Considering the lodge we stayed in was supposed to be for six people the kitchen and particularly the oven was tiny. It was very difficult to prepare and cook food for the group. There was some kitchen equipment provided but it was basic and passed its best. Every knife was blunt, the toaster had broken levers, etc. It felt as though the kitchen had been kitted out when the lodge was very first built and just neglected and never upgraded since. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and functional, but very, very snug. But what I found most off putting was how unaccomodating and stingy everything was. When I booked we received a confirmation email stating that we had to check in at 4pm. Any later and we would have to call to advise them what time we would be arriving. If it would be after 8pm we would be unable to check in. As we had a 7 hour drive to get there this was quite worrying as had there been traffic on the motorway we could have effectively have been turned away due to arriving at an inconvenient time for the park staff. Also the things we were provided with at the lodge seemed to be very begrudgingly provided. I’m aware it is self catering and so you are expected to provide your own things but other similar lodges I have stayed in have provided adequate amounts of kitchen roll, toilet roll, cleaning products, salt and pepper, towels etc. We were only provided with one fob and pair of keys to get in to the park and our lodge. This was frustrating as we had gone as two little families so while we had planned to do a lot of things together anyway it was limiting that we weren’t able to split up and do our own thing if we wanted to. It was as if at Quarry Walk they were trying to get away with providing the bare minimum. This includes the internet. When we booked it said WiFi was available for a charge. This is not true. WiFi is available for an extortionate charge if you are very, very lucky. Not one of us in our party had enough phone signal to even be able to connect to the WiFi. The receptionist informed us this was the norm but that even if we could it is incredibly expensive, £25 per device per 5g of data. Obviously going away the point isn’t to be sat on your phone or tablet all the time but it made things very limiting as we could not plan things from our holiday home, such as where to go the following day, as we didn’t have the signal to do so. We kept being told “signal is available by the main gate” but none of us found this to be the case, we had to drive at least a mile away to get signal. There is no reason in 2018 they couldn’t provide reasonably priced, good quality WiFi. It like everything else seemed to be a case that the people of Quarry Walk are trying to make things easier for themselves than their paying customers. But to end on a positive the lodge was very clean and very close to Alton Towers and the hot tub was amazing.

On the surface it looked nice but look closer and it's grubby, tired, needs maintenance. On the first night my son sat down for dinner and the chair completely collapsed meaning he fell forward and sustained a head injury by hitting the table. Filled out an accident form but that was the end of it, no follow-up. Contacted Hoseasons - no reply. Under the table was filthy and had it been cleaned then housekeeping would have found the defective chair. High chair absolutely filthy. Floors lifting. Carpets filthy. These lodges are in a beautiful location and structurally sound so with some upkeep they could be amazing. Had a nice time but glad only there for 3 nights but wouldn't return or recommend.
